This is gonna put me up in flames, but does this thing make your car sound different?

im trying to fill up the hole in my BC2 kit. i dont want a muffler that sounds like crap, and im not to thrilled about getting a catback. Anyrecomendations? Anyone have just a muffler that they like?

Umm, I wouldn't recommend Pacesetter for that. They are prone to rust. But it won't make the car sound different. Correct me if I'm wrong, I didn't read the description of it, but it's just a tip, it won't.

okay, i just thought since it said "resonator" i dont know what that means haha. I have been thinking about getting the pacesetter exhaust, whats the big deal if it rusts, dont all exhaust rust(stock) other than stainless steel

Pacesetter catback doesnt sound good. Just get a magnaflow or borla muffler (long as you can possibly get) and a long resonator (20"+), and a nice rolled edge tip. Then have a shop weld it all up and make sure the tip is positioned where you like it.

Tips affect looks.
Mufflers affect sound.
Full exhaust systems affect performance.

Also...
Noise doesn't make horsepower, horsepower makes noise.

i knew that. I saw a megan cat back in another post, and i really liked it, seems pretty pricy though. What catback would you recomend?

yea def get a catback. i have a local exhaust shop in my town and he made me a custom mendral bent exhaust (2.25) with a Dynomax turbo muffler and tip. i luv the way mine sounds. its not loud @ idle or cruising speeds but gets louder when i get on it. if u want, i can borrow a buddy's digi camera and take a lil clip for ya...

I cant ever get a straight up comment about the one i want! haha. AHHHHHHHHHh does anyone know anything about the MEGAN racing cat back. What about the RKSport?

Re: Help the idiot
Tuesday, April 25, 2006 11:35 AM
I don't know about the MEGAN but i have heard nothing but good things about the RKSport cat back. My muffler keeps coming off the hanger somehow and i might have a leak so im thinking about swapping for the RKSport myself. next will b the header n cat but that will hafta wait til june...

Re: Help the idiot

ic ic. I like what i hear about the RK Sport so far. Does anyone have a sound clip? I have an automatic, so im really trying to get a good sounding exhaust to make up for my short commings.

Re: Help the idiot

Most likely it will be raspy. I have the RK catback. It uses a Magnaflow muffler, but you'll most likely want a resonator.

The biggest one you can get.

tips can effect the sound of the car... not much but everytime i go to another style tip, the sound changes...

my friends pacesetter cat back sounds better than my rkcrappy cat back

of course he has a resonator

also the tips have changed on the pacesetters , and are now fully stainless

my friend has had his pacesetter a couple years now , and it still looks good , and sounds good

we both have full 21/4" exhaust and header and high flow cat

for reviews on the megan refer to the thread about them

only reason i got the rkcrappy catback , it was used and cheap , and all i could afford at the time

ive been happy with it , but the raspy sucks hairy sweaty salty chocolate balls , i havent added a resonator to it yet though

Re: Help the idiot

the RKSport catback is nothing but a rebadged Magnaflow

Some times the best way to get that tailgater off your but is to light a fart.
Re: Help the idiot

go with a custom exhaust. pick your muffler, 18 inch (at least) resonator, and have someone bend some pipe for you

Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!
Re: Help the idiot

i thought about it, but i would rather just get a bolt on. Im not too worried about it. Here is another stupid question:
Where does the resonator go? Do you have to cut the exhaust and weld it on? Welding and cutting arent a prob for me if thats what needs to happen

After the cat, after the first bend (inbetween the first and second bend). Yes, you'll have to cut the exhaust and weld it in.

Okay, thanks. Now Im not too farmiliar with stuff like this, but from the header, im pretty sure there is a downpipe that goes from the header to the exhaust. What im i going to need? I feel kinda stupid asking this, but the topic is help the idiot.

Re: Help the idiot

A flex pipe.

My shop didn't use Pacesetter's for some flippin reason, so it's welded. It that happens, you should get engine mounts to prevent any flexing that could but stress on the exhaust. Get engine mounts even if there isn't a flex pipe, I've heard they are worth it.

Note to self....buy engine mounts

Re: Help the idiot
Wednesday, April 26, 2006 8:33 AM
haha. THanks. If i were to purchase the pacesetter header, does that come with the flexpipe?

Re: Help the idiot
Wednesday, April 26, 2006 9:04 AM
they have a ball and socket style flex joint

and engine/trans(5spd) mounts , either with or with out a header , are well worth the money spent on them , as they also help the road feel of the car and also allow better shifting on a 5spd

rkcrappy's exhaust is not a rebadged magnaflow

magnaflow builds it for rk , but it is made to rkcrappy's specs , NOT MAGNAFLOWS
