Ive been lookin all over the net and havent really found anything on a possible SRT engine swap. Is there any past threads about some swaps out there or sites I can search for more info?
not without at least 30 grand, and a donor srt4...n00b.

this useless post brought to you by the alcoholic known as LUNDiS
donor srt4's are easy to find if you know about salvage auto's, the swap on the other hand im sure is possible, all youd need is custom engine mounts to bolt it up id think, theres also the the ecu, axels and other stuff youd need of course.
I think there's more frame on the SRT 4 than on our cars, been a while since I was under a SRT. You'll have to fab a subframe if I'm right.
Some times the best way to get that tailgater off your but is to light a fart.
WTF? Why would you do that - with all the money to do that you might as well sell the cavy and put a down payment on an SRT-4
Seriously. Buying the SRT4 is really the better option.
If you're going to swap an engine, at least stay within the GM family. If you don't care about the brand and just want the best engine... well I'm sure there are better engines out there than the SRT4 is sporting. It's an excellent option when you can get it from the factory, but if you're picking and choosing... well why not go bigger?
why do it.....why put a 454 and convert it to RWD.....why even make a cavalier fast......why put a LD9 into a CRX.....why......TO BE DIFFERENT.....just a few things your gonna need are the motor and tranny, fab up some mounts, ECU, axels, its a long road but it can be done.....TIME AND MONEY man thast all it takes.....dont litsen to what other people say if its worth it to you then do it....
Thanx Charles
I'd just turbo the stock engine, I don't know what engine you got, but according to Hahn Racecraft, a turbo ECOtec can make much more power than a SRT 4.

I like how you are calling him a noob and he signed up before you. Anyways, yeah it could be done but you better have deep pockets and a lot of time and patience.

off topic, but REDGOTE, you hear GM stopped making the GTO, this year was the last one, your pic reminded me
Caution: Redneck Posting
there is better swaps than a srt4 motor
unfortunaly you wont find any help here about 1 because no one !!! has done it
youd have better luck doing a 3800 sc swap , you find info for that here
is it worth considering a srt4 swap , maybe
swaping the srt4 motor in another chrysler product , prob easier , and better to do
crossbreading brings in weird issues , and not really worth the extra fabrication
its better to swap another GM product in to a GM product , than something from some one else
take the money you'd spend on the swap, build up an ECO motor, put a nice turbo on it, build up the trans, get the HP Tuners software and tune it, and you'll have something faster than the SRT-4.

There's a guy in Tampa here with a Corvette motor in an RX-7... The only type of comments he get's now are "Damn, That's Awesome" or "Holy @!#$!"
IF you really want to, you can do it. But you might want to think about what you are getting yourself into and if it would be worth it. IMO, if you are going to go custom like that, I say go big.
i got a better idea. swap in a Viper engine

Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!
SRT NOT WORTH IT. THEY ARE SLOW!
i'll do this later

LMAO. mid 13's from the factory and you call that slow?

I'd say strap a jet engine to the roof. Probably cheaper and easier to do than a SRT4 swap.

IF you stick a half-competent driver in one..... find me one of those thats driving an SRT4 though....
WTF is up with all these SRT engine swap threads? This is seriously like the 3rd or 4th one i've seen in the last year. Most people on this site don't even have the money to mod the engine that CAME in their car, much less swap in a non-oem engine....
The long answer is that you'd need to fabricate mounts, a new downpipe, find some way to wire the engine in (standalone engine management would be easiest but wouldn't pass emissions in most states), figure out how to get the shifter to work, then come up with axles that fit.....
The short version, is NO, its a dumb idea that if you're asking it, you really need to actually start reading the information on these forums. There have been 2.2 OHV's on this site that made 50 more hp than an SRT4 motor and were still cheaper than a conversion like you're talking about would be. Then you can always swap a stock eco and turbo it and be faster. It would be outright STUPID to go through that amount of work and expense just to get 215 whp. When you could spend half and get more.

The better question would be. How can you put the motor from the new solstice GXP into a jbody.

ok, 5 points...
1. are there better options than this swap, maybe... like turboing the engine youve got, or the allmighty supercharger may be a bit better (dont know the spec comparisson), but then again how many people can say theyre runnin an SRT-4 engine in a j body? its an experience, no matter how rite or wrong people think it is.
2. if you wanna do an SRT-4 engine swap, go do it. ignore some of the people who dont care for being different and do it, proove the doubters wrong.
3. you want info on a mod that will be mostly custom and almost certainly never done before, youre gonna have to do it yourself... meaning that there really is no info on custom things like this. youre gonna need to do everything pretty much on youre own... get an engine from an SRT, take the engine outta youre J, strip it down in the front to just the bare frame, mock it up, get it mounted to the bare frame, hook up all the fuel lines and electrical stuff, hook up all of ANYTHING that will run off the engine, then after you get the engine and anything that will have to fit in the engine compartment running, start to put parts of the body back on... modify things as needed, such as locations of certain things that may need to be moved to still fit under the body. if you can get it all to fit under the hood with the outside looking completely stock, youre gonna be golden, and no one will even know.
its a more costly and time consuming route than "simply" modding your current engine, but when done rite, an engine swap always looks so cool, and can most of the time out perform many stock engined cars. and a bonus with the SRT engine is that you start out with 215 hp.. you can always go up from there... again, lots of work, but if you have the means and can do it, hey why not?
4. i dunno how much different it will be from a modded jbody engine, and honestly who cares. if that is what this guy wants, give him some real advice, in a decent form. because i know i just completely ignore someone if they sound like an ass, knowlegable or not... and EVERYTHING is COMPLETELY worth a try, at least once...
5. i dont mean to make waves and by all means this isnt directed at anyone in particular, but if all your gonna do is flame someone for asking a serious question of which he can learn from, why even post? to make yourself look like you know what youre talkin about? or like an asshat... which is it i wonder?... if thats all youre gonna do go post on some freakin ricer forum and be the smartest ass there... along with everyone else on the site who thinks theyre better than the world... if you really do know more than someone, proove it and get it over with, dont just say something without backing it up... thats just dumb... give examples to why something is a bad/good idea. i know i will give full credit to anyone who knows more than me, cant speak for everyone, but still... if you know more than anyone, share the wealth man...
and i really dont wanna make anyone angry or anything this is just my 2 cents.
but no matter... ill still just sit back and laugh no matter who says what.
i hope you do this... honestly if youve got the money WHO CARES WHAT YOU DO WITH IT... its YOURS... do with it what you will
best of luck... and this post should keep some ppl occupied for a bit.i know it did for me

Yes, all it takes to be utterly stupid and retarded is some time and to piss away lots of money.
But don't worry, in the end at least you'll be different.
why waste all that money to swap in a motor that you'll pay out the ass for, when you could turbo what you have and be faster for a LOT less money?
if your 2.4 is tired, buy a replacement from a junkyard for cheap and swap it in
why swap to a motor not even made by GM? Yiou're opening a major can of worms that you don't want to F with
the Z24 engine can make some decent power with the right mods.
If you're taking out a small motor and putting in a small motor from another manufacturer... well that's just stupid.. you wont get "ooooooohs" and "aaahhhhhhhhhs"... You wiill have GM enthusiasts asking why you wasted a cavy and dodge enthusiasts asking why you wasted a neon motor. Not to mention the Honda people who will say "It's still just a cavalier." If you're trying to be different, at least be practical and do something with REAL use. It would probably be cheaper to swap in a mazda rotary engine and convert to RWD or something... still stupid IMO (buy an RX7) but it would make one hell of an autoX cavalier.
But to answer the real question.... It is possible to swap in the SRT-4 motor but it would take A LOT of fabrication. Don't think about just the motor mounts and ECU and all that crap... think about placing and lining up the transmision with the control arms... custom steering knuckles, one-off custom axels (alone, 20+ paychecks down the tube.)
Possible, yes........ Stupid....... yes... Will I laugh at you........ yes.....

(But don't worry, I'm already laughing at you anyway... heh..
