Well, I've been thinking about this a long time, and I think i've finally come up with an original(ish) idea for a way to induce ram-air into a 2200; I'm in the process of fabricating an air-box type of thing (very similar to a shaker you might see on an older trans am) which will fit directly on the block rather than being part of the hood. All I need are some ideas on what sort of box to use for the main unit (The snorkel and induction tubing pretty much takes care of itself if I can find a housing for all of it. A guy at Advance Auto Parts suggested a pickup truck OEM airbox assembly. Any suggestions for which make/model to use? Also, who thinks that an Enderle-type scoop with butterflies would be pretty sweet?
For the amount of gains you could potentially get from this, I say it is entirely not worth the effort and anyone who sees the engine it is connected to is just going to find the whole thing hilarious.
Go turbo and cram in the air you need. Your engine isn't big enough to benefit greatly from that sort of air supply.
Unless you are picking up air from the front of your bumper or where the hood meets the bumper, you aren't going to get a "ram air" effect. Our cars aren't the most aerodynamic things, wind hits the front bumper and front of the hood and bounces over the top of the car. Thats why all the ram air hoods we have are looks only, the scoop isn't placed far enough forward, or low to the bumper enough to get a decent effect.
