Anyone know anything about how the 3800 series motor would go into a 1989 Cavalier?
alot more room in the 1st and 2nd gen cavs than the 3rd gens
and 3rd gens can swap them in
so .............................. yeah id say with some work you can do it
its been done, not sure exactly whats necessary but given that its an 89 you already have two distinct advantages.... 1) you have more room 2) you don't need to run off the factory ecu to pass emissions (most 3rd gens do since they're OBD2)
Check over on V6Z24.com in the Jbody Performance Power Adders sticky... i'm pretty sure there's a link there.
Personally I'd do whatever you need to do to mount it up, and then use megasquirt and spark to control it all. Probably a LOT easier than swapping all the wiring and ecu and making it get along with the original (and older) cav electronics.
Keep in mind though that a 3400 is more easily swapped in and can handle up to around 320 hp on boost.... and it can run off the original 2.8/3.1L ecu and you can just get a chip burned by one of many companies to run it... It may actually be a cheaper option depending on your fabrication skills.

It's probably easier for you to look up to swap the Series II aka L67. The motors are essentially the same. The Series II has the Gen III M90 and the Series III have the Gen V M90 s/c on it. That makes for the 20hp difference.
Where did you locate the Series III for a good price? I want the blower and LIM off of one so that I can use it on my GTP.
