What the hell... !?!?!? Now as I have my wishlist completed and the money to order all the parts, I was looking at the eCatalog at the Dynomax website. On page 194 of this catalog are the details for their Thrush Magnum Glasspacks. I can't believe my eyes - the one I want to order (Part 24201) has 2.25" inlet and outlet but the tube size is only 2" !!!

AFAIK most of you guys are happy with these glasspacks and everytime I read something about exhausts everybody has stated that the full exhaust should be the same dia. But with the _painted_ Thrush glasspacks the tube-diameter is smaller than the inlet/outlet.

The stainless one (e.g. part 24239) has the same size tube diameter, but is to expensive.

What are my alternatives? Magnaflow has resonators too, but is also to expensive.

Go to Pep Boys or Autozone and get a Cherry Bomb glasspack. Basically the same thing and AFAIK all the ones they sell in the store are the same diameters at each end. It'll run you about $20.

When I looked inside my thrush glasspack it looked like the same diameter the whole way through to me.

Cherry Bomb's are louvered, with little lips sticking out all over, the Thrush doesnt have this restriction, just several dozen holes in it. My own wasnt too much smaller inside than on the outer ends, and with the holes and such it made up for the smaller inside diameter.

If you have a muffler with a louvered core that's labeled "Cherry Bomb" then you got a knockoff. "Real" Cherry Bomb glasspacks are perforated core that maintain a uniform diameter the entire length of the core. The only thing that changes on some of them is that the inlet or outlet pipe can be different sizes depending on what part number you get.

I'm not sure he has a Pep Boys in Germany. But Summit sells what these guys are talking about Z so I'd say check them out.

i've bought a few of the thrush glasspacks and never noticed the core to be that much smaller if any. the pipe size listed for them is inside diameter.

I have a 2.5" and it is the same size all the way through.

You should be able to get a thrush with an inner diameter of 2.25"

Just looked on the their website there are glass packs with 2.25", 2.5" and 3" inner cores.

no way! the dynomax eCatalog says definitely that the core at the 2.25" glasspacks is only 2.00" (yes, it's just a little, but it IS smaller - if I want a 2" exhaust, I would do the full piping at 2", but I want 2.25"). the only glasspack with FULL 2.25" is the stainless one (part 24239) - the painted 35" glasspack (part 24211) has a core-dia. of 2.5". all other 2.25" glasspacks have a core-dia. of just 2"!

IMHO you wouldn't see the difference between 2.00" and 2.25" if you look straight into your glasspack. But there IS a difference.

And yes, we don't have PepBoys in Germany. But they seem to be a little expensive (compared to Summit).

@Jackalope: I can't find neither the stainless 25" Thrush glasspack nor the Cherry bombs in 2.25" at Summit. Can you help?

I have to buy at Summit, because a friend of me is next week near them and would buy the parts from my wishlist and import them within the cars he want to import to germany. that's the only way for me to save the shipping costs (which are very high for these parts).
