burning oil

I just rebuilt a 2200 2.2L and when I started it today to get it broken in, it smokes a few seconds after its runs. I realize the rings aren't seated but d@mn theres a lot of smoke and its white/gray. What I used for the rebuild: copper head gasket, new bearings, eagle rods, weisco pistons and rings, and all the rest of the gaskets.

The headgasket is probably your culprit, you need to pull the valve cover off and torque the head bolts again, that has to be done pretty frequently for copper gaskets after installation.

If by chance it was the headgasket there could still some residual water in the oil.
