My good friend has a 2004 pontiac sunfire!! i was wondering if it was possible or if anyone has ever heard of swapping a cobalt ss 2.0 into his car he has a 2.2l ecotec motor with intake headears b&m short shifter and exhaust all installed by me he isnt very car intelligent or performance intelligent for that matter so i am just trying to explore options for him!! hit me up with any information you guys have on that swap!!
i also wanted to know anything for some stroker kits for the 2.2 or if you know of ne places that will do that and do port and polishing work!!! i dont know ecotecs to well i have i know hondas and mitsus those are really the only things that i have been working on!!
Yes it will work, you will need to study up on both cars though to find what all does and doesn't swap over. Also don't bother with search, you will come up with mostly dumb reply's to good questions that span pages of arguing
also wrong fourm
best is to just us the s/c and call it good
or just get the gmpp eco s/c kit

techinically yeah to this question. no one has ever done this swap. no one. so there is no info about it. tranny is too wide and the wiring is totally different. fly by wire they call it.
but with enough money and time, anything is possible. be the first to do this tyler wilczynski. but in the end you are better building the engine and slappin a turbo on

Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!
skunk2's '06 civics were converted from fly-by-wire to standard cables so looking into what they did may help.

ecotec can be a beast, for the money/time/energy why not just build the crap out of the ecotec in it already?
STREET ANTIX, it's coming...
well on the hondas , their drive by wire is still controled by a cable from the gas pedal to a box that coverts the mechanical movement to a electrical signal , then through the pcm to the throttle body
unlike gm's , where they use a variable restor setup on the pedal itself
for the money its not a worth while swap , its easier to keep the 2.2eco , and add the s/c to it
hmmmm looky how many posts "Cobalt SS swap" came up with in the SEARCH FUNCTION

Haven't been over here in awhile... Anyone tried this swap yet? Trying to get a gauge of how difficult the swap would be with the electronics, motor mounts, and such... 1998 Cavalier Z24

Well here's my question (and I apologize if this question has already been answered) A buddy of mine just picked up the new cobalt ss motor i think it's the 2.4 supercharged he got it from one of thos

in each one, the same question, the same answers....
build the 2.2, swap the LSJ pistons/rods into if you want, swap the supercharger, or even the whole head, because supposedly the LSJ head flows better than the L61 head. It DOES have better exhaust valves which are.... sodium filled? if i remember correctly?

for the money its not a worth while swap , its easier to keep the 2.2eco , and add the s/c to it AND be faster

oh, and what the hell is up with you guys talking about the trans? Its still got the exact same trans bolt pattern as the L61, so all you'd really need to do is bolt the motor in. Granted, the SS transmission with the factory LSD would be a great upgrade, but not necessary to do the swap by any means. The LSJ should bolt to the L61 mounts as its the exact same block externally... the big problem would be converting to drive by cable, and then engine management..... which could probably be solved pretty easily with hptuners now.... As far as I know, almost all the sensors are the same, it would just be a matter of putting the cav engine harness on the LSJ engine.

the way the cobalt trans mounts to the frame is alot different , as well as it is alot larger
the cobalts have a front and rear mid-ship mounts , and 2 frame rail mounts
the LSJ trans will bolt to the 2.2 eco , but there is no way to mount it in the cav , plus the size of the trans will interfear with other parts in the chassis
Why dont you just buy a cobalt? or even better...Take the 10 grand you'de pay for the engine, and buy the eaton m-62 supercharger, get smaller pulleys, take it from 12-13psi up to 18, and dump the other 5 grand into other mods.

again, why are we talking about the LSJ trans.... bolt up the LSJ to the stock cavalier getrag trans... its a 2004, it already has an ecotec, mount the LSJ to the cav trans using the cav mounts to hold it in the car. the transmission does not even enter into anything...

i musts miss read what you wrote above , lol
but the 2.0 has a issue with the 2.2 trans , no compatable clutch set up
the 2.0 uses a 8 bolt flywheel , and the 2.2 uses a 6 bolt
and the flywheel/clutch/pressure plate set up is different
yea, theres been a few threads on this, but who cares... give out whatever you know anyway...
tranny is too big. you could do it if you wanted to spend the extra time and money in modifying the frame beyond belief... probably making your own front frame and such... and then you need to worry about the whole electronics issue... the issue is the fact that you would need to swap all of the electronics ALL OF THEM over into a cavy. everything from engine management to window electronics... i think it was decided in one of the previous threads that it you would just be better off buying a cobalt and putting a cavalier/sunfire shell on that. or something along those lines.
if you do this i think itd be pretty cool. if youve got the time and money, then do with it what you will, screw what anyone else thinks, lol.
seriously, good luck

alright i hadn't heard that one yet... assumptions are the devil, but they probably use the same amount of splines on the input shaft, no? so as long as the clutch would actually fit within the confines of the bellhousing could it work? I have yet to see the SS trans or clutch in person so i'm kinda shooting a little blind on my theorizing. I was under the impression the case was the only difference, and that the internals were identical... If thats the case, the cobalt clutch should work inside the cav trans as long as its not physically too large, no? Or is there a difference in the slave cylinder/release lever/TO bearing also?

you would have to ask snowman about the clutch (he is more found in the boost section)
i know he was going to use a 2.0 in his sunfire with the 2.2 trans , but the clutch stuff became a major headache , and to much guess work to try and get anything to work
so he went back to the 2.2
that is about as much as i remember
