alright, I'm gonna be getting a new exhaust system, but I don't want any big fart can muffler. I don't like it loud but I want something with good performance, and no loud exhaust sounds good on an automatic anyway. I've been looking at the Rksport single exhaust, Pacesetter Monza, Dc Sports cat back, and just some mufflers by Vibrant and such, i'll post pics in order as I typed -

What would you think would be a wise choice for performance but not alot of sound? Or if there's any better options then these, let me know? Thanks.
*Also - Rksport sells just the muffler part of the single exhaust, if I were to do that or just buy a muffler without the whole cat-back, I'm probly going to buy the Y-pipe from a sunfire gt and do duals, I dont' mind the smaller/stock diameter piping because I don't want to lose back pressure, sound good or no?
First of all, read up on the misnomers about back pressure, it's bad for performance. Most people agree that 2 1/4" tubing is the best size for performance on these cars.
Most of those kits are loud and need a resonator (or glasspack used as a resonator) to have a deeper quieter sound. The PaceSetter kit is really loud, tinny and raspy and the muffler will rust out quickly in the snow belt. The others are good, just may be a bit lout for most people. Most people add a resonator or a glasspack, in addition to the muffler, to quiet them down. Both glasspacks and resonators do basically the same thing, glasspacks absorb the loud, high pitched sounds with fiberglass matting, while resonators use sound deflection to cancel out certain sound waves. On glasspacks, look for the ones with a perforated core(small holes around the inside tube) not the louvered core(inside tube looks like a cheese grater), the louvers disrupt the exhaust gas flow. Get the longest glasspack/resonator you can fit, for the quietest exhaust sound.
You can just get a good muffler, resonator or glasspack and a tip you like and take it to and exhaust shop and have them bend the pipes for you and install it for less than what those kits will cost. Also look into a 2 1/4" high flow CAT to help with the exhaust flow. You will only flow as much as the smallest part in the system can flow.
Check out my profile for my very quiet exhaust system. The intake is louder than my exhaust, under normal driving conditions. If you have a 2.2L/2200 you can get the same glasspack for your car, if you have any other motor you will have to use a shorter glasspack.
This has been discussed many times in the FAQs at the top of this forum and more information can be found if you use the search button at the top of this forum.
I am going with 2.5" piping cat back (including the cat) a 22" resonator, a camaro muffler with one 2.5" inlet and two 2.25" outlets running to dtm tips. all magnaflow and mandrel bent piping should sound nice and deep. I am getting this done for about $800-900 CDN so its cheaper than these pre fabbed systems. Unless of course you buy from ebay but i think this is one item i prefer not to purchase on ebay.
Whats up people?
I'm very please with what I just got put on.
22" Magnaflow resonator
Magnaflow catalytic convertor
18" Magnaflow 4x9 muffler
and custom bent 2 1/4" pipes and it's nice and low, while still being quiet. From the front, the car sounds like a sunfire, from the back it sounds a lot tougher.
