Looking to get the cams put in but im not comfortable doing it myself, just curious if i supply them the cams how much would it be on an average for a shop to do the work without getting overcharged?

Anywhere from $55 to $85 an hour. You need to find out how long it takes.
STREET ANTIX, it's coming...

I was quoted $200 to do a cam swap when I had a Quad 4. I think at the time my mechanic was charging around $45/hr. It's been several years, though.

I thought it was pretty reasonable. But he was a helluva nice guy and he was the ONLY mechanic I could get to do anything to my car other than OE replacement repairs.

$200 is a smoking deal... its a 4-5 hour job if you have no problems and know what you're doing. It took us about 4 and we had a hell of a time getting the crank pulley off (remember to remove the washer! It helps lots!)
Expect GM to charge you around $600 tho, its 8 hours of book time on a 2.4.

Yeah I have no idea how long it took him. I went to school with his son and helped him harvest crops and what not so I probably got a DEEEEEEP discount. But what does the GM shop manual say for time? That's what a mechanic typically goes by isn't it?

call around and ask
