its really up to you man..which way to you wwanna go with it?? if you just wanna prove that your 2200 can be faster than other cars than build it and boost it!! i personally wanted an all motor monster,so i had a quad built from the ground up..so tell us,whats your goal with the car?

Honestly, you don't seem to have much of a clue. Just pick up a JTuners turbo kit and be satisfied w/ 200whp.

if your going to swap I would say go ecotec

they are a lighter motor, produce comparable power to a 2.4, and are an easire swap if you have an obd2 car

both the 2.4 and eco respond better to bolt-ons than the 2200 but when no2 and boost come into play it becomes anyones game

go eco man in my experience of selling sadly the older 2.4's cost more than an eco swap now a days. If you want to do a swap LMK and ill give you a price. PM me though.

im interested in an eco swap, went to the local dealer, they told me a 2.2 eco with no head, no manfiolds, and a tranny would cost me 6800 + tax.

^^ Yeah, wouldn't a 2.4 be an easier swap in a 98-02 car since the Eco didn't come in it as an option?
I have a 2002 and was considering a 2.4L swap later for ease of swap alone. What's this talk about the 2.4L swap costing more? Wouldn't the cost of the Eco alone cost more than the entire 2.4 swap?

2000+ go eco cause its all simply bolt up pretty much

95-99 too much work... build a 2200 or swap in a 2.4

and someone else doesnt no nething..... dude r u serious? in the 98- 02 sunfire u could get either a 2.2l eco of a 2.2l (2200) engine. In most coupes was a 2.2l eco.... so idk wat ur talkn about....

and far as i know i had the idea of puttin a 2.4l eco into my car but the set up for the 2.4eco is totaly diff then the 2.2l from whom i talkd to and learnd from. it wont work simply.

the first place where you went wrong was when you said "it simply won't work" wrong attitude

believe it or not the Eco and the 2200 bear more similarities as far as wiring, and what goes where than the 2200 and the 2.4.

remember, all 3rd gens and pretty much the same under the hood. just gotta keep in account with the Eco you gotta have the Eco trans to go with it cause the bolt pattern is different. if I'm not mistaken all you need to actually fabricate to go from 2200 to Eco are the connections from the feul line to the motor and you will need to make longer power steering lines. assuming you know what you are doing everything else can pretty much be bought or pilfered of a donor car

^^^almost as clueless as NUTCASE. But, go ahead and 'drop it in', because with that line right there is is very apparent to everyone reading that you'll never even border on making that a reality.

Back to JBO basics:
95: 2.2L or 2.3L QUAD4 - OBD1
96-97: 2.2L or 2.4L QUAD4 - OBD2
98-99: 2200 or 2.4L
00-01: 2200 or 2.4L w/ new wiring (BCM)
02: 2200 or 2.2L ECO w/ new wiring
03+: 2.2L ECO
*note: the wiring years may be a tad off, but close none-the-less, and definately close enough to clear up the eco swap misconceptions presented in this thread thus far.

YOUR easiest swap is a 2.2L ECO (came in 02+ Js)

so..............which would be the easiest and which swap would be the cheapest for a 2002? 2200 to 2.4L? Or 2200 to Eco?
Honest opinions guys.
Cheapest swap=?
Easiest swap=?

Let the fight begin.
