how can i hook up a aftermarket speedometer without hooking it up to the pcm on my 97 sunfire gt. I tried to hook it up to the pcm, i used the wireing diagram on new your jbody forum, and when i inspected the pcm wireing compared to the forum, the forum diagram was wrong so i stopped right there. is there any place i can get the speedo signal from? hope its as easy as the rpm signal.

Yes, if it's manual, it's right next ot the fill plug location. And it is a pulse sensor, not a analog sensor. And 4000 is the right number. I think it is something like it pulses 4000 times a miles, and the ecu uses that to computer mph, something like that. It's been a while since I wired in my VSS from my auto to manual swap.
