Will resonator be needed?
Monday, June 12, 2006 5:55 PM
I'm trying to get together all the parts to have my exahust welded up at RDFABS in the next couple of weeks, This is what i have right now...

- Pacesetter Armor Coated header
- Magnaflow high flow cat 2.5"

and 2 of these magnaflow mufflers..2.25" inlet /4" outlet

Unfortunately were are unable to get the tubing in 1/4 incraments, so.... 2.5" primary from header all the way back to the axle then Y- off into 2" tubing for the duals out underneath the type-j bumper. I know you NEED the resonator for the RKsports magnaflow dual exhaust, but i am not sure since these aren't the fart cannon mufflers but i still want some vrooom sound from my car. I just don't want to put one on and have it be too quiet... What are you opinions?

THanks..

I would say one of these would work great for what you're trying to acheive. I had the Rk Sport singe-exit system at one point and added one of those and it got rid of and buzziness and raspiness without really affecting the sound level and tone.

I was about to say, get a smaller resonator/straight through muffler, just like he said above.

Besides being red, are the Dynomax Thrush glass pacs comparable to the maganflow ones?

Pretty much, they are similar in design and operation. They also have the new 25 "stainless steel models also(part # 24240 for 2 1/2" in/out).

But comapred to the Magnaflow, the fiberglass packing that dynomax uses will begin to deteriorate and blow out quicker than Magnaflow's stainless packing. Just a thought.

I've had mine on for over a year, with no problems. I would say I'm a "spirited" driver, who does go to the track and runs the &%!+ out of it!

Yeah, i guess with a 4-banger you really don't have to worry about blowing out the packing or the packing deteriorating much. I've been told by a few exhaust shops in my area that a glasspack will usually last 5-10 years.

hmm... i don't know its a tough decision. I'll probably decide which way i will go when i see how the flow on the mufflers are when i get them here. Should be on thursday.. Just basically 70 bucks for another muffler, not what i was lookin to spend right now... lol

4 cylinders generally have higher exhaust temps though which should deteriorate the fiberglass packing quicker (i say should... not definetely)

personally, if you're heart is set on magnaflow mufflers, i'd get a good resonator (like the magnaflow posted above) to put in there.

i'm a borla guy though so what do i know about resonators

why buy 2 1/4" mufflers and then feed them with 2" pipe , that 2" pipe is gonna choke it off , which will drop the sound level some

atleast use 2 1/2" to the mufflers , or get 2 1/2" mufflers
