Complimentary Mods

First let me say that i have done some research on moding my car. That being said i need some help deciding what to do. I am wanting to build my 2004 Ecotec but the only way to achieve the performance i want is to go with boost. The problem is the money for that wont come along until a year or two from now.

The thing i want to know is there any mods that i can perform now (i got the mod bug) that will help me out in the future. I dont want to do the exhaust until just before boost do to the larger diameter exhaust required for boost. The only thing it really has is an intake. Any thoughts would be helpful.

Mods: I dont really know if this should be in the boost forum or here. I apologize if this is in the wrong forum.

I think you ought to reconsider doing the exhaust. Short of doing anything major to the engine such as boost, getting rid of the restrictive stock pipes and muffler is about the best upgrade you can do, IMO. You will see, feel and hear a significant performance improvement. And even if your new pipes are optimally sized for the future expected boost, they will still give you gains even without it. If you want to see how restrictive your stock pipe is, crawl under your car and run your hand along the pipe between the resonator and the axle. The top of the pipe is compressed in a few places to about half of its nominal size. This is done for installation clearance, but it makes for a very restrictive system. And it is not obvious from just looking at the pipe from underneath. I had no idea the stock pipe was so compressed until I pulled mine out.

you could do performance clutch/flywheel/lsd/tranny mounts/short throw for when the boost comes youll KNOW that its getting to the ground better than the stock units.

you have a 2004 so i dont know your luck with hp tuners but you could get that and tune for some n/a fun for now then when the boost comes just change the tune to compliment the boost
also you could pick yourself up i nice set of cams, port/polish job, bigger tb, do some suspension or tranny work as carbon cavi said

Thanks for the ideas guys...i think the tune for N/A at this point is a good idea. I have a guy thats experienced in Hptuners and does EXCELLENT work...hes gonna give the Ecotec a crack. I think the Engine and Tranny mounts is a great idea as well. From there i think im gonna start collecting parts in the garage. Again i would like to think everyone for there input.
