ok i've got a bit of a stupid question here on throttle body assembly... but here's the story first.
i recently went to the junkyard and picked up a throttle body off a 2001 cavalier ls with the 2200 motor like mine. i'm having a friend of mine that works at a machine shop sand blast the throttle body (since there's a little bit of corrosion on the surface), bore it out to 56mm, and make a new 56mm throttle plate. i told him i'd take the stock plate, throttle arm, and all the sensors off of it so that he could work on it, then once he's done i would install it on my engine using my own origional sensors since i know theyre working correctly. the TPS and IAC motor came off no problem but im having some issues taking the plate and arm out. i unscrewed the 2 torx screws from the plate but i still can't get anything to budge.
so basically, does anyone know the proper way to disassemble a 2200 throttle body completely? any tips, pictures, or advice would be great, thanks guys.
on the 2.4, you undo the two torx screws, then hold the plate at wide open throttle on the side of the TB. then use some force and slide it out. the plate is wedged inbetween the arm(slit kinda deal)
after you unsrew the torxs then there are two lil dents in the plate on one side of the shaft you have to pull the other way so the two lil dents arnt holding it back
not sure if thats whats happening just telling you
ok ive got the plate out, now ive just gotta figure out how to get the throttle arm (if thats the right name for it) out. thanks for the help guys.
anyone know how to do it?... i think i can figure it out but some advice would be good. ya know, just so i dont accidently break something
Personally, id just upgrade to the 2.3 tb. Its 56mm to start and fits the 2200 with little work.
But as for taking the 2200 tb apart.
there are 4 torque screws that hold the 2 sensors on, and to remove the plate, remove the 2 screws in the center, and slide the plate out. Now to remove the arm, simply turn it to match the inner shape of the TB and pull real hard. Carefull, the spring may shot out.

actually i considered it, but i decided not to for a few reasons:
-ive heard you cant use cruise control with the 2.3 tb without some custom work
-ironically, there wasn't a single 2.3 HO or LO motor in the entire junkyard, just a bunch of 2.4 quad4s.
-even if i were to find one, i would still have to take it all apart anyways for sandblasting since it would be way older than the 2200 throttle body and most likely be rusty and corrodded.
-the 2200 (or 2.4 tc) throttle body is plug'n'play for my engine, while the 2.3 tb is not.

you were definately right about the pulling really hard part. but i did manage to get it out. thanks for the help dude.
and somehow i managed to screw up the quote thing.
