Engine swaps for '99 2200...
Wednesday, June 21, 2006 11:07 AM
Hey all.

Long story short, my 2200 suffered catastrophic failure in the lower end and is completely shot after less than 100,000 miles. The dealership mechanic said that only once has he heard of that happening, so I guess I'm lucky.

I need to drop in a new engine. I've searched on the forums and I can't seem to find the answers I am looking for.

If I were to upgrade to a 2.4 or a 2.2 Ecotech, what would be involved in it besides the new ECU? Would the transmission change?

If anyone has done a swap from a 2200 and could let me know, it would be appreciated.

your best bet is to get a wreck car with the ecoTEC in it (no front damage) and then swap everything over

Bah, I don't know if that will work. It would cost me alot more than just dropping in another 2200.

The Eco swap looks so sweet, but my car is just one year too old...

Thanks for the help. At least now I know that a V6 would work with the stock tranny...

Is there a similar thread for a 2200 to 2.4 swap? I can't get the search page to load at all right now :-(

I have done the Ecotec swap a few time on cars before 2000. It is some work but not too bad. if you look around you can get a wreck J with a ecotec for about $600-1100. It would have everything you need. To do a 2.4 swap you still need a tranny, motor, engine bay wiring. Now if you need a motor I know some guys with a couple of them that run.

Thanks John!

How much more invovled is the Ecotech install on the 99 electrical setup as opposed to the 2000+ that Raven did?

I'm looking around at the local junkyards and calling around to see what there is.

i was going to say if you had an auto a 3400 v6 would be pretty easy

the 4 speed auto is the same so that would stay

all you would have to do is get motor mounts
engine
ecu
and wiring harness

a little fabing on the left motor mount and vwolla all done

ive done it 2 times in wisconsin here and they run great and fast

one guy here ran a 14.5 with an intake, muffler and auto trans interceptor

PPPSSSS!!!! MMMMMmmmMMM boost=yummy
