ok fellas,
im stuck at a crossroad right now, im trying to decide which power adder to go with on my 2200. Im not sure wether to go Nitrous or Boost. they both have there positives and negatives...
Boost:
+:
Always there
No switches
More advantage over nitrous
-:
Fuel Efficiency
Maintenance Cost
Tuning Cost
Money for Just Stage 1 is more than the car itself
Nitrous:
+:
Cheap
Can be made Stable on a daily driver
is there only when you need it
Fuel Efficiency +++
-:
Refills Cost
Has to be activated by hand...
Tuning Cost
i think that pretty much sums it up on the positives and negatives ive seen...
im just not sure which to go with. Im leaning more towards nitrous cause i enjoy the fuel efficiency, its only there when i want to use it, and i heard that nitrous detonation is usually easier to fix then that of boost....
just not sure. looking for someone to push towards the right direction.....
With a boosted car you won't losse too much fuel efficiency if your not hard on it. For daily driving just driving normally shouldn't cause a significant increase in fuel consumption.
I hate nitrous. Waste of time and money IMO.

another reason im looking into nitrous is because im not wanting to get drastic gains, just around 210-220 whp on the 2200
but i think boost would put me in the 200's easier... see im really iffy right now
If you want 210WHP then go boost. About your only real choice. If you try to get that with nitrous your going to have to rebuild the motor and spray a 100 shot or more. I know the HRC 2200 turbo kit makes 171WHP on 8PSI off a 15G turbo. Crank the boost a bit and you easily have 200WHP.

yea im at a crossroad too, im half tempted to set the rev limiter to 8k and just blow the POS up im sick of it

let me blow it up. I'm good at breaking other peoples cars....I just can't break my own.

I say go with boost as well. As already mentioned, your mileage shouldn't suffer all that much for daily driving as long as you're not gunning it everywhere, and if you want that much power out of nitrous, you're going to need to do some work with the internals anyways. You say that nitrous is cheaper, however what does it cost to do it RIGHT - meaning the kit, plus blow down, bottle heater, etc (other accessories), and in your case, for the power you want, building the engine for it? I'd say $600 for a kit, plus probably at least another $400 for the accessories - you're in $1000 already at that point, and haven't even touched the engine to build it up for the amount you want to spray. I'd figure at the least you'd drop $1000 for pistons, honing the cylinders, and a few other odds and ends. $2000 now...and then you have the cost of refills on the bottle. Plus...how would repairing nitrous detonation be any cheaper than boost detonation? Either way, it's detonation, and the repair is almost sure to be a rebuild. Or you could just pay up front, get a turbo, and have the power there on demand. One good tune, and after that keep an eye on the vitals (A/F, oil/fuel pressure, EGT's), and you should be in good shape. Plenty of people have reached around that 180-220 whp range with a turboed 2200, and on stock internals to boot. The key there though is good tune.
If you were only looking to pick up, say 50 hp, I'd say go with the nitrous - but I still wouldn't cheap out with it.

Actually the black 2200 made 195whp on 5 psi, but not sure what turbo it was. Now owned by Bob Kerns.

Just stating what I got out of the product manual. LOL. If there's one that made more or I mis-read...AWESOME!!!

boost.... it seems expensive until you really start to add up the cost of nitrous refills (its up to almost $50 for a 10 lbs bottle around here).... And I don't care what anybody says, nitrous puts a lot more stress on the rods and bearings than boost does because of the torque spike that it initiates. That's why GM blew eco's the hell up left and right on the juice at 270 ish crank hp and we have 300 whp turbo ecos that are holding up quite a bit longer.

Drake I have gone thought the same as you are right now, and have been following most of your posts in the nitrous forum. I had almost all the bolt ons for a N/a 2200 and then I added spray. Car ran great for 3months, I went through 13 bottles, But I loved the feeling I had when on the bottle

but I found myself using the juice not in moderation but whenever "I felt" i needed to use it. ( passing people, messing with Honda's, buddies, taking people for rides, racing.etc, etc. ) If I used it once in a while I bet it my original motor would still be in the car. Unfortunately I had a big chunk of my #1piston missing and little pieces were stuck in my combustion chambers. Also some detonation, and one spun bearing on my 13th bottle.
Now I am in no way saying you can't have a reliable nitrous setup on an otherwise stock LN2. I wish I had gone the turbo route to begin with. I don't regret buying all my nitrous stuff with all the receipts I have I bought a total of 1250 and change for my kit and accessories including refills. I had a blast using it, but now I have a junkyard sunfire motor in my cav and I will be putting my nitrous kit on my 1986 caprice coupe.
On the plus side though I am currently in the process of building a stout motor and will be piecing together my own turbo kit. I have a crap load of boxes sitting on the floor in my room. When its all said and done I'm targeting 250-300 whp. and the best part about it ......I won't have to flick a switch or try and make it over to Street Stuff in Addison to fill my bottle up before they close for the day.
Best of luck to ya.
Jeff
i think ill go turbo... but i dont know too much about engines... so is this something i should really do, im more than willing to learn.....
With the power you are going for you could saftly run a low boost setup on your ln2 and be happy with it. Just spend your time reasearching and pricing out the parts you want comparied to some of the kits known to the jbod comunity if your looking to save some cash.
BTW Drake I like your sig man Atreyu is pretty good, ever listen to Caliban or children of bodom?
tis true, sprey can be addicting. but the way I look at it spray is also a simpler setup, and you can hide it. you can tell joe shmo with the vtack you got a stock motor. with no pop-hiss, no fancy piping it would be belevable if you know how to hide the lines and selenoids.
but moderation can be tough. most people with stock internals will forget about thier stock internals and spray until something breaks *****GIULTY******.
all up to you, but I'm still addicted to the bottle. and I love hearing the whole "waaaaa you only beat me cause you got nitrous"
