Ecotec running hot too long after turning off?
Wednesday, June 21, 2006 7:54 PM
Seems like my Ecotec takes FOREVER to cool down. The temp gauge never goes over midway while driving but when I park the car and turn it off, you can literally still burn yourself on the valve cover after close to 3 hours. I know its summer and its been 80-90 degrees lately but is this normal?

It sucks to have to wait 4 hours before being able to do any work on the engine bay...

open the engine bay and point a fan at it. moving air will coool down the engine faster.

Would work if I had a garage and it was not parked over 50 feet from the house.

Next thing I needs is the lawn care guys running over the long ass power card with his lawn mower.

You could wire your fan to a switch and leave the fan running after you shut the car off.

You'll need to keep an eye on your battery. I don’t know how much draw the fan has, or how long it will run before draining the battery. You might want to consider using a voltage monitor that will shut off the fan when the battery reaches a specified level.

Just to throw the idea out there.
(I don’t know if this would work so please don’t try this based on my post.)

You could hook up and electric water pump in tandem with the fan switch. This would keep the coolant circulating until the engine is cold.
I’ve never hear of it being done on Jbody and I don’t know how well the coolant would circulate with the stock water pump in the way.

Good luck.

If its worth doing its worth over doing.

Yea I understand what you mean.
I did a couiple Computer mods that run the power supply on for 5 mins running a fan on the CPU before shutdown, and running pump in a water cool setup.

Not sure if it would work though. You would need a different way to pump water, and the fan might work, but doubt it move enough air to make it worth while.

So i just leave it sit for a while.

My Ecotec seems to do that too. I think it's a pretty normal thing but im not exacly for sure. I think it has something to do with the high temps during the summer.
