hey guys, got a couple questions, these are purely opinion and experience questions. i have about 500 bucks and can't decide what to do next, except that i want it to be performance, what are your recommendations? i currently have a 3A Racing muffler, pacesetter 4-1 headers, and the RKSport CAI. its not a lot but it's a nice start. anyways, the second question, how much hp do you think i gained from the stuff i have? roughly of course. i don't have a dino anywhere around me that i know of, kinda sucks. anyways let me know what you think guys. thanx. it's an '03 sunfire.

You haven't gained much because you still haven't opened up your exhaust. Go to your local muffler shop and ask them to put you a 2.25 inch exhaust piping and a high-flow cat. It'll run you $200-$300. It'll make your other mods full potential come out and the gains will be noticable. With the money left over, save up for lowering springs and struts, or coil-overs if you haven't messed with your suspension yet.

the 2 things i would get would be....the "upper engine mount"...and a "autotrans interceptor"....then save the rest....
motor mounts: 80$ shipped for the upper AND lower. takes about 1 hour to install both. easy job.
bored throttle body: (depends on where you look) but i got mine for about 80$ shipped from ebay. easy install, nice gains. less then 20 minutes to install.
B&M shift kit plus: i had this on my old automatic cavalier.....and HUGE diffrence. love the B&M shift kit! about 50$ shipped. easy install, less then an hour.
2.25 catback exhaust: dont worry about a high flow cat. just do 2.25 piping from catback. this will open up your air flow and you will notice power gains for sure. have a shop do it....parts + labor will run you about 220$.
do exactly what i listed above and i promise you that youll get major gains.
hope this helps!

sorry but without the high flow cat the 2.25" tuding is worthless. Your exhaust only flows as good as the smallest point.

not true. with catback exhaust and header and downpipe he will be fine. unless he doesnt car about passing smog...which in my state is kinda important. i dont know what state he is in, so if its legal to do a high flow cat or no cat i would do that. but if its a state like cali then screw touching the cat.
also...having a full exhaust and stock cat doesnt slow the air movement enough to even mention. everyone believes this but ive done hours of research to find out that the exhaust isnt really that restricted with a stock cat.

Werd.
The 2.25 cat will give you so little because of the stock converter. Upgrade the converter too, it'll be worth it.

yea, i got something, take that 500 and go to ebay, talk to a guy named down2turbo. Buy yourself a super60 from him for 375 shipped. take the other 125 and look around the classifieds for bov's and such.
Piecing together a turbo is EASY. as long as you have common sence and understand the basics of how a internal combustion engine works along with the turbo, you'll have no problem. For my age, I know a decent amount about cars, but i still took a month or 2 just to READ and SEaRCH, do that and you'l be fine.
no. I just got (through the slassifieds) 50dollars precut charge piping and couplers, 100 dollar turboxs rfl bov, and 30 dollar oil feed/return. add just about another 80 onto EACH of those and you have what they usually go for. I'm saving lots of money is what im trying to say. Just gotta take your time and not rush yourself. - and 375 for my turbo. and whats messed up is that the guy that i got all this stuff from, has a turbo for sale for 250. But i had already placed my ebay payment, about 4 hours earlier!!!!!! i was so pissed. alrite,
530 in the morn and i need to go to work now...... but its someting to think about
well if ur goin to redo ur entire exhuast why would u want to keep the stock cat anways? its just goin to get cloged sooner
i went to an exhaust shop to get an estimate of how much a 2.25 catback would be and the guy gave me the price and then i asked if when i got the exhaust installed if he could put headers and a high flow cat on.
he said no because my car is less than 8 years old and has less than 80,000 miles on it. he also said that automotive shops cannot do ANY kind of work from the cat up towards the engine.
is that really true or was the guy just a piece of sh-it?
i dont know if its a law. but all the shops around my area will not touch the cat or header. they can get in a lot of trouble. taking a cat out is really not worth it.

I'm in cali too, and I took my car to a dealership when a CEL was on, and they were PISSED when they found out I had a hi flow cat on... they took it off, and put a stock one back on... no charge (still under warranty)... but man, they were mad...
As for working on the exhaust from the cat up... this is not true... I've taken my car to MIDAS, and they worked on my OBX Headers down to my cat, and from the cat on back...
As for people saying the stock cat restricts the exhaust and if you take it out, you will notice a difference... it's BS... add 1 HP maybe 2 if you take the cat off or put a high flow one in... I've taken mine on and off to see if there is a difference... and it's not a difference that you can feel when you are driving...
Just my .02 cents
