Sorry I'm really new to this but i was wondering if someone can tell me what Balance Shafts do, where they are and do i need them
as far as I remember they are used to reduce vibrations within the engine and kinda do something with the oil maybe...
other then that they are aded weight on the timing chain and the motor itself... people take them out for faster revs and a lighter engine... but I blieve there are some things that need to be modified in order to do that... I believe someone makes an ecotec balance shaft delete kit

Level Zero Motorsports makes a blance shaft delete kit that I hope to be installing in my motor this time next week or there abouts.

I used to race cars, now I race myself.

In the Ecotec the balance shafts share a chain with the water pump. This means you either need idlers (like our kit) or to replace the pump.
Yes we do make a kit to delete the kit. Currently it is a custom order only item because of the time required to machine the inserts.
Thanks everyone thats helps me alot. can they really take up 15 hp? wow i think i'll take them out
yea im interested in seeing some results of this and waht effect removing them really has, its something that ive been thinking about doing

when you beat someone in a civic people wine and make excuses
when you beat someone in a cavalier they pull over and check under thier hoods
If you look at some my old posts in P&M (early 06) you'll see what LZM's kit looks like.
