i just recently installed an air/fuel ratio gauge and got a problem. when i am just crusing along normal the needle doesn't just move around slightly it slams from as lean as it can go to as rich as it can go...so hard that i can hear the needle hitting if i got the stereo low. i can't see how it can be installed wrong cause it runs off your o2 sensor and theres only one wire on my sensor. the car is a 97 2.2 and the sensor isn't very old. is this normal or is something wither wired wrong or is there something wrong with my car?

That is completely normal, because it is a narrow band sensor.
It really only good to tell you that you are running a little rich under WOT. But a wide band will do this more accurately. A wide band o2 sensor setup is normally around $300 mark for a good one, and also comes with a wide band sensor. If your worried about your air fuel ratio get a wide band package like
THIS.
A narrow band is kind of just a pretty light show.
