about to get my 01 cav ls sedan automatic out of the paint shop. I have already installed racing seats, amp subs, wheels, need a reccomendation on what performance upgrade i should get now. looking to spend under $500 right now. Not interested in lowering it right now either.
Intake and header and full exhuast.
Shop around you can get an Intake for $20, a header for $200+, cheaper on ebay and then shop around for a good but cheap exhaust shop.
got the intake just haven't put it in yet
Ok then, look into front and rear strut bars as a suspension starter, or the 2.3tb swap for a mild boost in Upper rpm power.
just what can i expect from the new headers? i see that they are not very expensive. and just what is the 2.3tb swap?
The 2.3 throttle body swap pertains to the 2.3L tb in replace of your 2200 or 2.4 twincam TB. There is a size differance more air can flow in, but mores your power line higher into the upper rpm range. the 2.3 is 56mm as opposed to 52mm (cant remember if that was the exact measurement). It does take a little bit of modification but there are many many threads discussing how.
And a header, since you only have one on the car, is a mod that works best with other mods, like a full exhaust. It lets the exhaust side breath easier per say, reducing stock restrictions and weight.
maybe think about a shift kit for the auto...it will help a lot. but a full exhaust in addition to the intake would be your best bet

will only work if he has the 4 speed. If you got the 3sp, your screwed.
what would this do for me and wheres the bes tPlace to get it?

There isn't an actual shift kit for the 4T40E/ 4sp, it's the B&M ShiftPlus shift controler. It's much easier to do than a shift kit, just wire it in and turn it on. It has two settings and an off position. Under normal driving conditions, it is reccomended to turn it off, it has a tendancy to cause problems if used all the time. It will firm up the shifts, for better consistancy, but does very little to improve 1/4 mile times.
The best thing for an auto is a torque converter. These can knock up to a 1/2 second or more off your 1/4 mile times. See one of the many posts in the Transmission Forum for more information.(BTW, both the 3 & 4 Speed trannies use the same torque converters.) David S, the Camaro Guy is the one to talk to about TCs and auto transmissions, he works for Yank Converters.
El fuego, theres atleast three shift kits available for the 3sp/TH125C/3T40 transmission. they asre by Superior Transmission, TransGo(not listed on their website though) and JBP(appears to be the same as the TransGo).

Madjack, I was unaware of that for the 3sp. Thank you for the info.
You can find more about shift kits, TCs and gearing
here. Not just for the 3sp, but some info about the 4sp also.
i'm not 100% sure on what your plans are for your car. But if you want to get the most out of all the mods you plan on getting, I would start with possibly getting the HPT softtware. Not only can you tune your computer to make the most of your bolt ons but you also will gain control over the computer controls on your automatic trans. You wouldn't need the B&m thing since you could edit and modify the settings in the computer.
You said you had an Ls auto right? If you have the 2.4 you could do the secret cams and Ho intake on your quad.
ok got the new intake, color matched to the car. want to get a new exhuast now. any thoughts? dont wanna spend too much. looking for a little more sound (not much though not into noisy cars) and better performance. what are your thoughts?
