problem with new header on 2200
Thursday, July 27, 2006 7:59 PM
hey guys. i've been doing a bunch of @!#$ to the car this week, and the latest hangup is with the downpipe on the new pacesetter header. There is a brace that connects to the tranny that is in the way, I removed The brace for now, but I was wondering what other people did. I am thinking about putting a c notch in it. Its too far off to just bend it, so I'm open to any other suggestions. C'mon ohv army, help me out.

almost forgot to mention that the o2 sensor is not even close to reaching. Did everybody else have that problem as well.

yeah there should be an 'extension kit' that came with the header.

you'll have to lengthen the o2 sensor wire, they say to do it on the engine harness side and not on the sensor.

if you have a heated sensor, you'll have to lengthen all the wires.. I think.

I only ever had the 1 wire sensor.

not sure about the brace, I know mine never got in the way when I had my pacesetter.

Yeah, that's exactly what I had to do. I didn't out it back and so far, nothing negative has come of it. I put my header on in late 2003.

Better late than never . What I did was cut off the last part of the brace and cut it down so I could use the round part of it and welded it diagonally to the other bolting location. Then cut off what wasn't need so it would clear the header. The exhaust clamp on there is actually bolted to a bracket so the downpipe can't move and cause loose bolts or cracks near the flange.

i had the exact same problem with my pace setter header that brace just take it off and throw it away it doesnt do @!#$ anyways. and for the O2 sensor just rewire it as simple as that. did you get the ceramic coated header? cause if you did you might want to turn your fan into an electric fan because it will over heat easy at the track.

oh yeah and if it is a pace setter ceramic coated header and you have it on for a couple years the flange will break i put mine on when they first came out i ordered it before they were even selling them for the cavalier so it could be a problem with the originals but i would say watch it

I didn't have the coated pacesetter, but it never cracked on me at all.

I've never even seen that brace before.

The only problem the header had was that it somehow warped when I gave it to another guy.. (no idea how it could warp while NOT on the car)

i have pacesetter headers and the only problem i faced was the bolts tightening them during the prossess of buttoning everything up ... other than that it went in pretty smooth... only thing i have to warn you about is if you try to go and weld the exhaust system up (i.e. like i did header to cat) it will be stiff and be prepared to remove the stock brackets and watch out for them the two "rods" the donuts hang on watch out for them they almost punched a whole in mine from rubbing it took me a while of investigation to realize it... happy tuning... later

i didnt either. someone else told me that my ceramic 2200 header wont clamp onto the stock cat with the hardware it comes with. do i need to pick up a 2.25 to 2" adapter?
