It just unbolts. I belive I had to take my fuse box off to remove it.
take the nose off, its easier.
im going off the top of my head from installing my cai for my cavi, so dont quote me 110%. i had to take off my fuse box, inner fender, and the wiper fluid resovoir for xtra room. it was held in by a plastic fastener that you can see for the engine bay. u can just the tip of it poking through. once you get that look for nething else cause i dont remeber EVERYTHING that needed to be taken off. but once you do just give it a tug and it should come right out. good luck
its not difficult...i spent about 45 minutes fiddling with tools under the hood and got it popped out...mind u i have a 97 2.2 cav...not sure how diff it is on the fire...but it came out really easy for me...i didnt do everything that justin ^ said in fact i just took out a couple bolts or snap locks on the box i think it was and that was it...yea remember to tug tho

95-99 is slightly different than the 00-05 ones.
Take out three 10mm bolts that attach the whole bong/washer fluid reservoir to the car. Cap off the washer fluid line, or you'll lose it all on the ground.
Once it's out of the car, put a pry bar or whatever between the tank and the bong to separate them.
I've been able to do 95-99 ones in the car... but 00+ I have to take them out, or I break the washer tank.
Is the washer tank connected?
my godforsaken hunk of plastic in the wheel well was held in by some plastic clips and a some screws. couldn't get mine out out right away. there was a plastic clip all the way in the back that i could not see. but it came out soon enough.
then again, its been almost 3 years since i removed mine. so i sort of forget. LOL

Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!
When i took mine off I removed the headlight from that side. You can look straight down on the "hidden" bolt that way. You have to take the front inner fenderwell out, pop the little plastic attachers out (move the inner plug with a screwdriver & pull the center out). There's a bolt that attaches the wiper fluid jug to the wierd intake silencer so don't forget that or you'll break the wiper jug.
Don
seriously....just rip the thing out. ... take off your wheel and unbolt your wheel well covers, then pull that @!#$ as hard as you can. haha I'm sure theres an easier way, but my way works too.

dont worry about the windshield wiper fluid. Its not attached to the air box, it is just sitting next to it...the crowbar idea is a really good one.

I just bought a used Cavalier, haven't picked it up yet... is this a water separator/silencer that you're talking about? If so, I think I'll be ditching it
