Okay my GF has a 1996 Cavalier 2.4 Vert 5 speed. I did the engine swap and did the timing chain and guides and tensioner. The car has no power and sounds like it is going to blow up (Literally) past 3500 RPMS. The motor has 80K on it, the car has a cone filter and a pace setter header into stock exhaust system. I replaced the fuel filter and plugs like others had said but its still slow, could the timing be off a tooth?
Let me know
Chris

well this is more of a maintenence issue not , performance
but my guess is you got the timing off
Does it idle normally?

sounds like the timming is off
either the timing is off, or when you replaced the tensioner it didn't set right (oil raised)

I think that is it, I am doing a tranny on it in the next few weeks, I will pull the engine and tranny and rebuild the motor. I will have the head cleaned and milled to raise the compression a bit, cant be good driving it with timing off like that.

could be the tensioner on the chain had the problem when we changed my cams. Had to replace it after a test run.

I replaced the tensioner when I did the motor swap the first time along with the guides and the chain, maybe it was defective?
If anyone knows of a 5 speed tranny anywhere let me know, I need one!

Well I fond out what it most likely was, the fuel pump just quit on it yesterday. So most likely the pump was starving the engine of fuel and bogging it down.
Oh well how much is a new pump, anyone know off hand?
STILL LOOKING FOR A TRANN! Anyone in NY?

did you reset the tensioner? you have to push it all the way in and it will tighten up instantly... (it says, " see manual to reset") unlikely it would wreck, but always needs to be reset, by pushing it all the way in and it pops out.

you should double check and make sure the timing isnt off rather than sit here and guess. ? id double check it anyway a @!#$ted out fuel pump will def cause the car to run liek ass, i was subject to that myself earlier in the year.
compared to your s/ced car its gonna feel slow.
roughtly about 300 something for the fuel pump , it comes as a module , meaning everything around it
I have a stocker outta a 2000, I paid 135ish USD for my walboro, if you are interested in my stocker PM me
