Chevy Cavalier Z24 1997 Stock except muffler and gauges
Ok recently since I put my new muffler on my car has been driving @!#$ty.. I dont know if its the muffler or what.. I got a CherryBomb Turbo 2.
- When I have my throttle wide open when the car shifts from 1st to 2nd my voltage drops down to 12 and the lights dim.. I have not seen it do that in any other gears.
- When accelerating normally around 1500 rpms my car like stutters and then goes fine.
- At times from the muffler it sounds like the car is misfiring but I do not think it is.
Anyone have any ideas or suggestions?
you might have to much flow, i had problems with acclereation and hesitation when i didnt have a mufflur on my cavy, i would suggest a high flow mufflar maybe......thats all i can think of.....
A muffler has nothing to do with your problem. Have your altenator tested to see what the output is.
200 wheelhorse or bust
this should be in maintenance
also it might be time for a new belt or tensioner , since its possible something is slipping when you shift
actually once i put a muffler on, i got so much more performance, i think the motor needs back presure
a Muffler doesnt do anything for performance.....
Alright thanks guys for your input... This is what happened:
About a week after I posted that me and my brother took the alternator out and redid the wiring on it since the last time I replaced the alternator (About 4 months ago) I broke the wiring harness and had to rig something up with splices and so forth. We put a new belt on and everything. That day I drove home and heard a weird whinning sound next day went to start my car and my voltmeter was reading 12 volts. Drove around that day knowing something was wrong and I had to fix it and was planning on doing it the next day with the voltage staying between 11.7-12 volts. Next day I come home from work with the voltage at 11, I had to help my neighboor move which took about a half hour so I left my car idling becouse I knew if I turned it off it wouldnt start up again. After we were done looked at my gauge before \I was about to leave for my brothers and it was reading 10.5. Then I called my brother. Then dumb me I turned the car off while I was talking to my brother, tried to start it, click. Oh oh... Anyway I got a jump made it to my brothers watching the gauge the whole way and stalled out 2 houses down from his lol. We brought back the alternator since it was on warranty got a new one and it works like a charm so Jimmy that link you posted has alot of credibility towards it.
