i was looking for exhaust and my brother told me about an electric cutout, and i like the idea. Anyone have an idea how much exhaust shops would charge to install it?

going by you profile you have absolutely no reason to get one, waste of money for you. The onlu time you will ever see gains from it is if you have forced induction and a highly modded engine, otherwise you WILL lose power

Manual cutout

This one is only $50 (instead of $180 for an electric). The muffler shop by me doesn't charge much for little crap like this, but you may want to think about the shape of the rest of your exhaust and get the whole thing redone. Just make sure that the dumped exhaust doesn't heat up brake or gas lines, and don't over-rev or you will float a valve (and that's bad!)

Darkstars is right, you'll lose power with a cutout on a stock setup. But if you're like me and like to make noise, this is a fun toy to have. You'll get more power from a header and low-restriction exhaust (2 1/4 or 2 1/2 pipe) and a long glass pack muffler.

its just the way the exhaust gases flow, your torque will drop quite a bit and the car will feel slow. I have a 2.2 Ecotec 5-speed, I had intake, TB, port matched intake manifold, header, 2.25 inch full exhaust, cams, 100 shot of nitrous, pulleys, motor mounts, trans mounts, ect... and with it full open it would lose power even with all the other stuff done. Just from playing with it (using the butt dyno) if taped the switch towards open 5 quick times (its not just open or closed, you hold the switch and it takes about 4 seconds from full closed to full open) thats where the butt dyno felt the best, any less was alittle to restrictive, any more is alittle to much flow and the power would drop.

ok, thanks. my brother had one on his transam, but it had to many mods to list, so i don't think he knew that.
