k i bought an auto meter tach and the tach adapter, hooked it all up but now when i get like above 1500-2000 rpm it like doesnt register. what could be the problem? do i haveta get somethin else to calibrate it to the car computer or what? i know i have it hooked up right cuz its not that hard, has anyone else had this problem?

c'mon i know people have put aftermarket tachs in and sumthin like this has happened how did ya fix it? does the right harness for the stereo make a difference cuz i got the old one that cuts out my airbags so if i get the right one put in would it help?

do you have a good ground on your tach or on your car?
thats the prob.

Nope, i grounded mine behind one of the screws i used to mount it to the firewall with and some washers. The the actual gauge is grounded with the other ones inside the car. Are you sure you have the little pins inside set correctly?

what pins are talkin about? and as for the ground i have the m both under one of the strut bolts so i think that should be fine right?

did you clean the areas to be used as a ground? paint and rust don't usually make for very good conductors...

what he means is is the gauge set up for a 4 cyl. car? does the gauge just stop working after 2krpm or does it just not read any higher?

its like fine without bein in gear i can get it up to about 3k but when im in gear its like half of what it should be so i dont know what could be wrong. my gf's uncle is a mechanic and he said theirs a switch in the back that can change from 4 to 6 to 8 n he'd help me but i took off the back and theres no switch theres like a round thing in the corner but it doesnt say anything and it doesnt look like it should be mived at all its an autometer 2301 if someone wants to look that has one.

Sounds like it's set to 8cyl. That round button you mentioned on the back. Does it perhaps have numbers like 4,6,8 around it and a little line? If it's "lined" to 8, then set it to 4 and it will work.
