97 2.2 to 99 2200

My buddy is wanting to do this swap and we were just curious what all needed to be done. Ive heard that you need to change the whole wiring harness, ecu and egr. Is this true? We have the whole car so parts arent a problem, we just dont want to do alot of work just to have another 2.2 So any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Ok so you have a 97 2.2 and you want to put a 99 2200 in it? If so, and if I understood correctly and you have the whole 99 car? Then swap everything in the engine bay over (including ECU, and wiring harness). That will be the fastest way. If you do not have the whole car for the 99, then you need a injector harness for the 2200 motor. You can wire this into the 97 wiring harness (not hard). Only other issues will be the coil packs on the 2.2 are on the back of the block, while the 2200 are on the end of the motor by the valve cover. You will need to pull wires out of the harness so they will reach (and they will). I have done this swap and the 97 ECU will run the 2200. Again if you have the ECU and wiring harness for the 2200 use it.

Question about the wiring for the injectors. The injectors are different, top feed, bottom feed...same plug connectors. The injectors I noticed on the 95 have 11-12 ohms, and the 98's have 1.9-2.3 ohms, now the 2001's have 11-14 ohms...will this make a Huge difference? I am building up a 96 block, and 00 head. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

From what I know the injector clips from a 2.2 and 2200 are different.

John. I noticed that the injectors off the 99 2200, have a different resistance value (2 ohms or so) than the say, 95 injectors(12 ohms or so). Therefore the 97 injectors will have 2 ohms as well. Now you said that the ecu from the 97 WILL work with the 2200 injectors...they are different values. I am VERY hung up at this point of my build, for, If I can't use the pcm out of a 97-95 (I have the 95 now), then I may just use the pre 2200 head. Your insight will be greatly appreciated. BTW, is there a specific time we can talk, maybe on msn? tonight if possible? I just need to get over this hump. Thanks alot man, The_mark_man@hotmail.com

Again we put a 2001 2200 in a 97 2.2 car. We hard wired the 2200 injector harness into the 2.2 wiring harness. We used the 2.2 ECU to run the car. It is still runnning now. I do not know anything about the ohms differences (sorry), I just know what we did and it works. We also have 2 2200 motors (running), with wiring harness, tranny's and ECU's.
I do not have MSN, but I am on AIM, screen name in profile hit me up.

John, do you have any injectors from an 01 or newer?
