all righty then i'm doing the hybrid cam swap into my 2000 2.4l. i'm ordering all the necessary parts needed to do so thru gmpartsdirect.com. now since i've never changed the timing chain since i've owned the car which has surpassed 60k mile mark i thought it would be a good idea to replace that while it's exposed. i need the part number for the 2.4l timing chain i got all the others i just need the number for the timing chain itself then the cams will be dropped in. whoever can give me this number i'd appreciate it alot.
Why not look through GMPD's catalog and find the number?

I used to race cars, now I race myself.

Don't forget the guides and tensioner. Doing the water pump at the same time? If you're going that far, you might as well do those extra few bolts.

is all that necessary or is it just precautionary. u talking about replacing the whole water pump and thermostat if doing all that would be a good idea might as well get the part numbers for those two items. i ordered pretty much everything on the list except the guides and waterpump gasket
You don't need to worry about the thermostat. That's an extra little pain in the ass that doesn't need to be dealt with unless you feel like draining the coolant. It's the same job whether the engine is in the car or if you have the timing cover off.
Also none of this is necessary, it's just gooid maintenance to do while you have everything apart. You have to remove the timing chain and tensioner to do the cams. You might as well put new ones on if it hasn't been done in a while, and the guides are right there, along with the water pump.
IIRC most pumps you buy will come with the gasket you need anyways.
