two questions from a Cavi noob

Hi, I'm new here and new to the Cavi world. My brother just got a 99 Z24 auto and I'm trying to help him out. He takes delivery of the car today so we haven't been able to completly go over the car (it was raining when I last saw the car and wasn't going to lay on the ground to look underneath) The car already has a Pacesetter header, Rksport dual exhaust w/ Magnaflow mufflers and an intake *unsure if it's "cold air" or "short ram" because it's longer than most s.r.'s Ive seen, the cone is directly behind the battery. it's also got a rear disc conversion, drilled and slotted rotors in the front, Razi rims, and low pro tires (cant remember brand)

Ok so here are my questions...
How much power is this car making right now? Im an Fbody guy and know roughly how much each mod adds to an SBC, but am clueless on a ballpark hp figure at the crank for the 2.4. Just a rough guess will suffice, all I know right now is that it's higher than 150.

What should be done next for performance? When it's all done he will have s/c'd it, intake manifold, t/b, ported head, cams, ignition, suspension upgrades, rebuild engine internals... the whole nine yards, but nothing too drastic, the car is his daily driver year round in New England.
Thanks in Advance

A good guess would put him about 145 with the auto tranny. If you are going to build the motor do not lower the compression for the supercharger. It only puts out about 5-7psi nothing huge. since you are going super charger the gm kit is the only S/c kit that is not known for failures. Read up on the a 2.3L quad 4 oil pump swap
a deffient necsscity for any built 2.4L. The compresion ratio for the gm charger i would recomend 10:1 the stock is 9.7:1. Steer clear of manta part and rsm. Others will have more insight but this should get you started.

I really doubt its higher then 150, but it is impossible to give you even an estimate.

As far as what should be done next is entirely up to you (him). I would probably do the internal motor work work first and bolt up the SC as your putting the motor back in the car/back together. Then do suspension, if I could redo the way I did things on my car I would have done motor, suspension, looks instread of suspension, looks, suspension, looks, looks, looks, motor.

Hope that helps you out.

Well, from what I had read, I thought the 2.4 was 150 stock at the crank, unless you guys are quoting this in WHP.

We were going to do the internals and s/c last. We are trying to get all the bolt-ons done first. Also money is a factor and like I mentioned, he just bought the car, so we are trying to find the lesser priced mods that will provide some gains now and will also help in the long run of the build.. He was thinking about pullies, but we really dont want to underdrive the accesories. Any lightweight pullies out there that are stock size?

if the intake ends behind the battery then its called short ram.
the engine itself has 150 hp to the crank. but about 130 to 140 hp to the wheels. but you did not really say what you wanted a guess at. only way to tell is get the car dyno'd before then when its all said and done, get it dyno'd after to see how much improvment is made.
get the head port and polished, a valve job, bigger throttle body, cams, possibly HPtuner software to tune it.

Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!

I understand the dyno is the only real measure, just was curious as to a ballpark. Once again, in the Fbody market, most guys have had before and after dyno work so you can ask how much does "X" add nad folks can almost always tell you right off their head. And P.S. I did ask for a number at the crank, it's in the second paragraph, not that Im complaining, I am intelligent enough to figure out what was being talked about, it just threw me for a loop for a quick second.

I figured it was short ram, but that's one of the longest short rams Ive seen. My buddys Integra short ram is way shorter, but of course every car is different..

As far as mods go now. Now that he drove the car home tonight, I noticed he's burning some oil at WOT. Not smoking out the tail, but you can smell it. There was a small oil patch where the car had been sitting at the dealer as well. So rather than mods with his next two paychecks, he's getting the motor looked at to see what seals are leaking.
