Magnaflow Cat O2 Sensor Q?
Monday, September 04, 2006 2:44 PM
I have finially recieved everything to complete my exhuast.

Tsudo (yeah, its cheap, but it'll work) 4:1 header 2.25 (collector)
Magnaflow OBD II High Flow cat 2.25
Magnaflow 2.25 Catback

What O2 Sensor is recomended for the cat? Should I get a OE After cat (which is $99 for a Bosch at AutoZone)?

I plan to be installing the rest of my exhuast (the catback already on) this Friday.

I have the OEM o2 in my Magnaflow cat.
I have a 2.25" exhaust too. I've been throwing P0420 codes (cat efficiency below normal), but that can probably be fixed by spacing the o2 sensor farther out by using a washer.

just get an oe replacement.

if you throw codes, the sensor itself is toast, moving it out farther will prob make it worse. the more direct its in a stream the better. many times the wires (4 wire) the heating element wire goes bad, gets severed, etc.

or the cat may be too small to effficiently burn off whats being kicked out.

i posted the right size a while back, rksport sells the right size, the part number for it on rksports site is the same numbers on magnaflows.

RKSport didn't have a p/n listed for it....

yes they do... i just looked. dont know how you missed it,

theres a series of numbers located BEFORE the description of EVERY part.

http://rksport.com/main/catalog_detail.asp?mdid=2&appid=109&catid=3

i dont know how you missed it.

for that year 02 is the year, 09 is for cavalier the rest of the numbers are the exact part numbers used on the actual companies website.

I know that the Magnaflow cat I use is the Magnaflow P/N 91035, but you can also use the 94035.

I haven't been under my car in awhile to check the sensor, but I'm going to try to get to that this weekend.

99 bucks, holy @!#$ man. My rear 02 from napa was 72 and change for the Bosch, the front Ac Delco from dealership was the 1-wire and 63 bucks even.

I have a 2.5" in/out Magnaflow cat. I'm not throwing codes either.

thats more than likely your prob....

i as well originally went with the 91035, worked fine until i started upgrading.

once i did, i called magnaflow back and they said the 91035, which it was snug enough to cram in there, its shorter than the stock cat.

the 94000 series was long enough and made to handle the emissions thrown out of the engine for the j-body, even with mods....

makes more sense.

i just as you were throwing codes on a shorter cat. shorter cat means less exhaust is converted...so the cat shows as inefficient aka the 420 code, mainly because its too short to convert it all before it gets to the sensor.

the 94035 is the one to go with.... http://www.car-sound.com/02product/universal/940.asp or different last two numbers depending on the size of the pipe...

thanks Event. I'll probably go with the 94-series cat in the long run. I hate band-aid fixes.

out of curiousity, why did you get a 2.5 inch cat and a 2.25 inch. not sure on the header but whats the diam of that? if i remember right the old 4-1's were 2.25 as well.

its like leaving the header at a 2.25, then moving into a 2.5 would allow gases to expand and cool some slowing velocity, then be crammed back into a 2.25 opening.

also which cat part number do you have?

question for funky bottoms(Event), I was wondering if magnaflow gave you any kind of refund on your 91 series cat. I have a 91 series and have been throwing the p0420 code for awhile now. Just wondering, since they advertise the things as a universal cat thats obdII compliant, they should be a little more specific i think in their applications.

nah, i bought it local at CRW parts... plus a cat only cost around 45$ here, and being used, i, myself wouldnt even bother asking. that was more or less my own fault in choice.

the advertise em as universal cats, that are obd2 compliant, but in reality... it is obd2 compliant. its just simply too small for what our cars kick out sometimes even in stock form to be efficient.

they have a listing of direct fit for cars. which should be up to date.

although it prob comes with flanges, and when you go custom, flanges usually go out the door for most.

I got the cat for a great price, it is a 94106, works just fine performance wise, but the code's going off is a real pisser.
