My GFs vert has around 96K on it and I am pulling the tranny since it grinds really bad and found one with 20K on it. While the motor was out I was thinking maybe I should rebuild it.
However I dont know where to buy a rebuild kit for it, it is not like a chevy 350 where you can get one for 68$,
I am probably just going to get a new set of rings and bearings, I dont think I should replace anything else (Besides gaskets obviously). So does anyone know where to buy the rebuild parts, and does everyone think I should rebuild it?

Local shops. Napa. Local to me most of the machine shops can get the rebuilds.

Any idea on price and whats included John?
Also the car has 100K on the motor, you think I should change all the bearings and rings or just re gasket it?

The full gasket set for the car is around 200-225 (felpro)...
Clevite bearings- rods & main are around 150ish- maybe OEM would be a little cheaper??
Im not sure how much piston rings would cost-- but you'll need new head bolts or studs & possibly main bolts or studs if you pull the crank...
If it was me, I would just go buy a junkyard motor w/ a warrenty and drop it right in-Its alot less labor & probably just a little more expensive that rebuilding it.

They have both stock and performance rebuild kits. The kits are $600 and $1000. I was going to rebuild mine but I found a used 2.4 with 8K miles for $700. I second the scrapyard route.
look up mike jazz.
he told me he had a 01' 2.4 with a few thousand miles on it . computer/ tranny . basically the whole front of the car. he is looking to get rid of it.
Well the motor is fine, runs great. The only reason it is coming out is I am doing the tranny and figured while it was out I would replace some stuff.
Rod bearings are 11$ a set at napa, but would I need to have the crank turned to change them out, they arent spun.
I am thinking I will just do the head gasket and a cam swap (Secret cams) and timing chain and such. I guess I wont touch any of the bearings. It is for my GF and it is her DD to and from college every day so has to be reliable. The cam swap should wake it up nicely.

When i rebuilt a 96 2.4 with 129k on it (due to spun rod bearing), it cost me about $900. That was having the block hot tanked, valve job done, crank polished, resized the rods, all new gaskets, bearings (the mains are about $90 by the way), new clutch, water pump, oil pump. We used the factory cams, lifters, pistons, rods.
If it was me I think I would put in some new bearings, new oil pump, water pump, leave the stock cams and be done with it.

It is a daily driver, does not really need them. I also think some mild tuning might be needed for those cams, so in all might not be worth it.

Not enough to justify them in this tame set-up.
