So today I went for some new stock plugs, I always use stock plugs since ive had my best results with them, so they brought out the box and I saw it said Irriduim on it, so I thought hmm, maybe they just put them in the wrong box, so I took one out, low and behind its a totally different plug, so I had the guy double check the part number across several eco cars and it all checked out
Apparently GM has dropped the old platinum plug in favor of this new irriduim plug for all Ecotec L61 applications
AC Delco 41-105 and theres a stamping on it of ILTR5CII
Havent put them in yet, not sure what gap to go with, I had the old plugs pretty well figured out as far as how long they lasted and what gap they ran good at with the MSD, not sure what these will run best at, heat range etc, or even if they are a good idea on boost

I wouldnt reccomend an iridium plug, i've stated many reasons for this before...
and the Delco platinum/copper cores are still availible for eco's

Hmm... that's funny... because GM (now) and NGK (all along) and many other people have suggested iridium plugs, in a colder range, for boost and nitrous applications..
Iridium plugs (in a colder range) are supposedly the best for high boost applications and nitrous..
Followed by colder copper plugs...
Platinum plugs, on the other hand... were always a bad idea...
I was running iridium plugs for quite a while.... never any problems. Oh and for the record, I blew my s/c'ed 2.4L on the stock GM copper plugs...
Well its gotta be right cause this is all GM carries now, and with the GM supercharger kit for the eco they state no plug changes

if you look at the plug, the new ac delco plug is made by NGK, and since I switched the plugs, the car has ran a lot better than before
the plugs are $6.99 at the local autozone, almost half og the NGK price of $12.99.

Hmmm...well we'll see what the German Chevy dealer has! I've thought of going to a colder plug so maybe this will be the time...what gap though?
Eh...old man with a Corvette now...it was bound to happen sooner rather than later right?
I have my NGK's gapped down to around 30
FYI on a second inspection of the plugs (marked as AC DELCO PROFESSIONAL ) they have NGK stamped in one of the flats of the " nut "
autozone/advance/napa also does not carry the coprrect plug for the ecotecs, if you ask for that engine the computer throws out numbers for plugs of the 2.2/2.4

New Picture comming this summer.
QBE double check that and see if the guy behind the counter isn't just hitting the 2.2 that the computer picks as the most common engine. I know at AZ,the computer does ask what engine code ( T,F, and 4) it also has the 2.2 DOHC flex fuel listed. theres a guy at the AZ near me that recommends the same oil; no matter what car the person has, so it could be a lazy employee.
i work in the parts department at a chevy dealer. from what i've been told, the platinum plugs are all being replaced by iridium plugs and it shouldn't cause any problems with heat ranges....as told to me by the gm parts rep.
i previously worked at pep boys for two years, and as of july, we still didn't carry any plugs for the ecotec.

If you knew what you were talking about, you wouldn't be saying that. Both Advance and Auto Zone have the correct listing for the plugs in their computer.

actually ive seen the autozone computer under 2003 cavalier VIN F it shows the autolite 103s as a plug choice and this is very wrong because they are shorter plugs and are for the 2.4, I didnt believe it either, near as I can tell the only place to get the right plug is places that sell AC delco which is O'Reily which isnt around here and the dealerships
Ive yet to see a place online selling ac delco plugs, i wonder though, why is GM switching?

That's cute, considering I DO work at Advance, and have for the past 3 and a half years. I worked 9 hours today, actually. As a matter of fact, I am the RETAIL PARTS PRO, ASE CERTIFIED, and have bought and sold quite a few sets of AC Delco plugs for the Ecotec, my car included.
And I've been on the .org for over 5 years now. I'm no n00b.

Well then youre the ONLY autozon that has the CORRECT ac delco plugs listed.... THE FARKING EBSITE even lists the wrong part numbers!!!

I wouldnt be proud of that. If your ASE certified why are you working at Advance? Congrats you pick the part your computer tells you to, thats real talent there.

They have certification for parts "specialist".
waste of $100 if you ask me.
I'm more than a "parts specialist." I happen to be certified in electrical systems, engine repair, brake systems, suspension and steering, transmission and driveline, and HVAC systems. But that's besides the point.
Yes, the Advance website is screwed up. It's not even remotely similar to the in-store APAL system. It's ran by PartsAmerica, and is nothing but a clusterfluck. They do list the wrong plugs. In-store, however, the correct plugs are listed, believe me. I changed mine last month, pulled out the old AC Delco's and put in the new ones I just bought. They were the exact same plug.

Why are you even involved in this??? Me and QBE are having an arguement on parts listings in a computer. There is no need for you to insult me, my job, or question my choices. But if you nust know, I make a decent amount on my hourly wages at Advance. And I find that repairing cars on my own for $30 an hour is a helluva lot more than I can make in any dealership, and I don't have all of the BS.

maybe it has something to do with that its HIS post ? I dunno
BTW just in case i missed it what it the correct part # for a cross reference? i have people come in all the time and just ask me for certain plugs.
