Pistons

Couple of quick questions. Can pistons from a 96 2.2 work in a 2000 2.2?? I own a 2000 and blew 3 pistons, so I got another engine (before doin my research) that was a 96. I have dropped the 96 engine with my 2200 head on it, into my car. I had to change the crankshaft positoin sensor to the 2000, well now I am out of time BAD. Only solution I can think of is to fix my 2000 engine and drop it in. Is there any other solutions??
Thanks in advance

You may have to put your 2200 cam in, as your 200 ECU won't play well with the 2.2L cam timing notch. Other than that I can't think of anything.

The pistons will fit, but you would have a greatly reduced compression ratio. The older pistons have a deeper dish, designed for the older design combustion chamber.

The '98+ crank and camshaft have the timing notches ground at different angles than the older crank and cam, hence the timing problems. You must use the crank and cam from a '98+ motor to get the proper timing.

Either rebuild the 2200 you have or get another engine from a salvage yard, or buy a new engine.

Thats what I thought I would have to do. So negative on using the 96 pistons in the 2000 engine? Since there would be lower compression. Oh well, I kick myself in the rear for not researching fully before hand. Thanks for the help guys.
