can you remove a rev limiter on a 2000 cavalier 2.2
You're gonna blow it up!! lol
Rob
Sold 2/2/05
Yup, you sure can.
Gonna start by costing you 600 bucks.
Unless you've got some super-hoorah crack monkey engine that makes power to 10,000 RPM, or you have a burning desire to blow a stock engine six ways from Sunday, then the answer is very simple.
No.
And if you actually do have the knowledge and ability to build a super-hoorah crack monkey engine that makes power to 10,000 RPM, then you should already know how to remove the rev limiter.
And if you just have a burning desire to blow the stock motor, just drain all the oil out, or drain all the coolant, hell, drain both. Then just hop on the nearest freeway on-ramp and go nuts.

ok heres the steps......
When ur driving......
take it to high rpms in 3rd gear....
wen ur at about 5k slam into 2nd and slam the gas and poof ur gauges go nutz and dip real low ur car will start to bog.....
just keep it to the floor and it will actually kill your rpm gauge and u will be able to rev to about 7-8k....
i did this and i can dip way into 7k.....and my car will now do close to 120....
you scratch my ride IMA EAT YO CHILDREN
Okay everyone, he's talking about the rev-limiter, not the speed limiter.
A stock motor (or with just bolt-ons) doesn't make any more power beyond the rev-limiter. Going beyond the rev-limiter is only going to damage your motor and will make your acceleration slower. GM put the limiter in there for a reason, the motor isn't made to go past that point (6000rpms on a 2.2/2200). You have to do some work on the internals (cam, pistons, rings, rods, bearings, valve train, head, etc..) before the motor will ever make power beyond the rev-limiter.
If you have the knowledge to build the motor to go beyond the rev-limiter, you have the knowledge to remove the rev-limiter.
Be hard on him please.

A noob like that just deserve the ban. Man you're one of the dumbesat I've ever seen. You can't read also.

Great minds really do think alike... But I still think he wants to blow the motor to ugly little bits.
removing any limiter on a stock car is bad. they are there for a reason
while this and his question in tuning maybe dumb, im sure we all had dumb questions like this when we first started out. he just needs to learn how to search i guess

Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!
