Okay so im driving home one day from work. Stop at a light go to take off and my car dies. I restart it try again and dies again. Check to see if im in first and notice the shifter is really loose. Now im a newb when it comes to cars but i notice it would take off just really slow and i had to rev it up to keep it from sputtering and dieing. Finally i made it home and tried to get it into reverse.... but no luck it would only catch 3rd and 4th. so i removed center consol and to my delight find this... (pics)
now what i need to know is what the piece is called that hold that "wire" thing onto the thing it loops around.
thanks in advance if anyone can tell me.

incorrect. take a look at this picture:
its all one piece. Unless you can rig something up, you're going to have to get a new shifter cable...
so if i want to get a replacement part.... I would need to ask for a new shifter cable? does it matter if it is the left or right one? right now i just put a small clamp on to hold the cable on.. its a temp fix but, i want to fix it correctly.
dont want to risk messing anything up further then it is.
Yes you would need a new cables, but I think they are sold in a pair, not single (could be wrong on this). If you look in that picture there is a difference between the 2. I would rig a clamp (probably C-clip) and be done with it.

yes you would need to order the pair, they're not sold seperately. Might as well just hit up a junk yard and find one. Or do what Higgins told you, but you'd have to shift like a granny all the time...
