I'm finishing the rebuild on my friend's car - finally - but I have a small issue. The return line sprung a massive leak when I had him start the car to check for leakes and such. Amazingly, this is the only leak but it's being a pain in my arse. I know full well it's the O-ring - the original one was missing - I'm guessing it broke but the car sat for two months so who knows what happened. ANyway I've gone through all the O-rings I had in the garage and none of them seemed to be the right size. Hell, I even tried some O-rings I have for my paintball guns - I even doubled a couple up on the fitting; that worked for a couple minutes then it started leaking again.
It's kind of funny this morning, after I got a little sleep. I put this motor back together yesterday morning, dropped it in, and didn't even get the car to start until nine last night - and the one thing that's keeping it off the road is a fricken O-ring. Not a coolant line, or a gasket leak, not a ticking lifter or a timing issue, not the ignition or a ground strap loosen not a sensor left unplugged or a vaccum line in the wrong place. A FUKKING O-RING!!! ARRRGH!!!
Pardon my rant...
Anyway, if someone knows what size O-ring I actually need or any other suggestions I'd really appreciate it.
I can take a measurement when I get home tonight if needed. What year do you need?

It's a 97. Thanks, Josh.
How I missed the fact that the O-ring wasn't there when I hooked the fuel lines back up is beyond me. Tunnel vision, I guess. Twelve hours straight working on an engine will do that to a guy.
That's alright, my Audi developed a good fuel leak on the feed connection the other night (after I JUST fixed the oil leak). Turns out that line doesn't even use an o-ring, just a metal washer

Chevy wouldn't make it that easy. I have all sorts of washers. And now all sorts of O-rings covered in fuel, so they're pretty much uselss for my paintball guns now. Did I mention I hate this car?
The problem is the metal washer is built into the braided fuel line fitting, so it's not replaceable, and the fuel line a single section all the way back...

If you're tired of that engine send it to me, I need a '97

Uhm... i was thinking for some reason that there's 2 o-rings for that return line? Had some kinda issue with this on a friends car after doing a head gasket. It wasnt leaking bad, but it still was leaking.
I'm not sure, it's been a while, I dont remember what it was. But I coulda swore it was 2 different o-rings.
There may be one after the FPR as well (the one I measured was between the FPR and 'rail'. I can't find my return line anymore to see...

Yeah, on the passenger side there's a return line coming out the back of the rail. It's next to the #1 intake runner, below the EGR and the ignition wires.
And believe I'd send it to ya, Josh. But Jay would be very unhappy with me cuz he would be without a car yet again, thus defeating the entire purpose of fixing this glorified paperweight.
But anyways, I did get it fixed. I managed to find a couple rings jsut slightly thicker than the two I doubled up - I have no idea what size they actually are but it doesn't leak anymore and the car runs like a champ.
Woo hoo!!
The line on the passenger's side is the feed line, not the return

If anyone needs measurements for that I think I still have it. However, it's always easiest just to go to the dealer and point to the piece on their assembly diagrams

Fricken frack frack frocker frock frock... *

Man I really need to get some sleep. My left is my right and my up is down I'm all wet and confused and where the hell am I anyway?!

Yeah. The feed line. Not sure why I said return line given the FPR is on the OTHER side of the rail.
But hey, it's fixed dammit!
