Lots of oil inside intake resonator

Yesterday, I removed the black plastic intake resonator thing off of a 2200. To my dismay, there was A LOT of oil inside the thing, it was basically covered in sludge and oil. I washed it in my parts washer and air dryed it. I bought one of those little crankcase breather filters, put that over the stock breather location, and plugged the hole in the intake resonator.

Is there a reason why there might be a LOT of sludge and oil inside the resonator?

Did I do anything detrimental by bypassing the stock route?

My 97 had the same problem, 80,000 miles. I ran a longer hose from the oil seporator to the air filter box, before the filter and plugged the hole in the resonator. It's still putting oil dribbles out, but at least it gets filtered before going back into my engine.

I don't know if this is normal, but mine did it too.

I finally broke down and bought a oil catch can off ebay, my car was pulling way to much oil into the intake.

Oil Catch Can is the best addition to your car. The stock air/oil separator gets filled up quick with oil so it gets sucked in along with air in the vacuum cycle back into the intake. Adding a breather filter doesnt do anything except to cut off vacuum which isnt the best thing to do to your motor. Keeping ur oil ciruclated along with the motor is a good thing.

Breather filter= cuts off vacuum, and oil can seep out of it.

Oil Catch Can= keeps vacuum in ciruclation and collects oil in the can and can empty it when u see its full, and motor is happy.
