Anyone know how to trick the ecm?

Ok, Not long after I had my cavy I swapped out the stock 96 2.2 for a much newer 2200. Easy, no real probs with the swap, and everything runs great. Only one complication with the whole thing. The 96 has an oil level unit in the front of the oil pan, and as far as I have heard, it's the only year that had it. I constantly get a check oil light now on my dash. I really don't want to switch pans back to the 96, as I have true and accurate gauges for both oil pressure, and temp. I don't need an idiot light, and I don't really want an extra sensor to have to worry about. The light never bothered me, as I also have my air bag light on for obvious reasons, etc. But now I have emissions coming up, and I don't think I'll pass if my car is throwing an oil code. Maryland is funny about that clean air crap, lol. I believe It should be just a matter of buying a radio shack resistor and putting it where the sensor should go, but If anyone knows the resistance It would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Take the cluster apart and put electrical tape behind the idiot light filter.

As long as you are not throwing a CEL code, no worries.

he said it was a check oil light...not check engine light....having an oil light on does not fail inspection..only the engine light...so yes he COULD just cover it up like i used to do ...or he could do what i do now and just jump the connectors on the end of the harness..then itll go off

ok then, 2 options -- swap the 96 pan back on, or, play ignorant ("There has never been a light there as long as I've owned the car... ")

I'm glad I live in Ohio where we don't require inspections. Not even E-Checks anymore, yay for Ohio!

Move to Iowa. They don't care what you do as long as you have a cat (or a shell of a cat where a cat should be hehe ).

take and cut the plug off , which will leave you 2 wires , strip the ends , and tie them together

that should keep the light off

I still have to e-check in Ohio. Newer cars can skip the test, but my 97 still gets tested.
