If I take the flange off of the DC header and adapt a 2.3 exhaust flange to it will it work. I want to get a decent NA setup and was thing of doing this since there is a lack of options for the exhaust.
I've brought this up before and people sware that the HO exhaust manifold will flow better. But most small block chevy headers are 1 5/8" (i believe the same) so I have no clue.
Many will say that the HO exhaust manifold will flow better but will it do what a header is suppost to do and scavange better then the header?

the HO exhaust manifold will flow just as much as a 2.4L with a Header. a SBC header is only 1 5/8ths primarys but those are @!#$ headers meant for stock heads, they are not sufficient for anything other than someone putting a cam/intake and carb on the engine.
You probably cannot use the 2.4 header with the 2.3 flange on it, i doubt the pipes would match up and if they did the massive size of the ports the header would most likely be a restriction. So far the only one i know to make a header would be TRS but i'm not even sure its for a 3rd gen or if it'll work.

it wont work...this has been discussed many times..a 2.4 header is not sufficent enough for a quad head...TRS is not making ANY headers any more so no chance there..but i am still completely bent on making them for 3rd gen cars so as soon as i get my oil problem fixed(hopefully tomorrow) hehe ..ill have the motor running again and ill get back to work on the header..i know ive promised this header a long time ago but there have been many complications along the way..i update whenever i can...sorry its taken so long
Two questions: Is the reason peolpe feel the 2.4 header won't work is because the primaries are too small? How can the HO exhaust manifold flow more than a 4-2-1 header? I'm new to the 2.3 motors and don't understand some of the little stuff.
look at it this way....will the 4-2-1 header outperform enough to be worth 2-300 bucks? I personally don't like the idea of an 086 head on a 2.4 block...plannin on runnin premium everywhere cuz your compression is sky high....i think its too high to be streetable...I say port the @!#$ out of a 2.4 head and keep their aftermarket

most of the people who ask that question have never looked at an 086 quad head port compared to the 2.4 head..look at them and youll have your answer..i dont even need to give numbers ...the problem here is that 2.4 owners cant use the 2.3 manifold so there isnt really a debate on that..only issue is with 2.3 owners who for the longest time have simply used the manifold (ported ) since it flowed so nicely as it is
i just posed this possibly stupid question in another thread with no answer, so here goes. will the exhaust manifold from a 3rd gen 2.3 (96 z24 maybe?) bolt on to the 086 head? i think it will hook right up to the stock downpipe in my 98 z24.
it seems like an elegant and cheap solution to the exhaust issue with this swap. i know the 90-92 HO exhaust mani is the best flowing option available for a 086 head into a third jen, but this requires a custom downpipe.
i am just looking for a functional exhaust until i can have a header made.
any ideas?

heres some comparison pics

Might not be able to compare to much from the pics but the vavles seem bigger too.
the valves are bigger, and the chambers are smaller overall much better performing head even though there is not as much velocity as a 2.4 head.

I am pretty sure the 2.4 has a higher velocity simply because it has smaller valves on a motor with a longer stroke. You port a 2.4 head and you will lose velocity down low just like switching to the 086 head.

"Youth in Asia"...I don't see anything wrong with that.

read my post again, it states the 2.4L head has MORE velocity than the 2.3L due to the smaller PORTS, valve size is only a small portion of it and really the valves on a 2.3L head are not all that much bigger. they are 1.44 on the intake and 1.2? on the exhaust i belive and the 2.4L head is a 1.40 intake and 1.1? exhaust.
