What all can i do for weight reduction on my 2000 cavalier i dunno wanna gut any interior but if racin seats are lighter thatd be a thought and fiberglass panels or somethin but i have no idea but fill me in
Umm hook it upto a remote control? Then you don't have a driver weighing it down
i say u sit on a milk crate....and elimanate all seats....then gut the entire interior and ull be running 12's in no time

ok, i will actually help you.
most people remove the spare tire and jack, the passenger seats front and rear. you can get the carpet out and remove the sound deaden material underneath.

Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!
while your at it take the door panels out, any stereo equipment, dashpad, air bags, and if you have power windows and door locks swap it all out for manual, or be like a true race car and build a light weight brace to hold the windows up and then gut the doors, remove center console.. man theres lots of stuff you can do. but do you want it to be a true all out racecar?

you shouldnt be asking us, take a look at your car, what dont you mind losing to lose weight, also does it weigh anything? no point in removing something thats like 2 lbs lol.
Also get a Carbon fiber hood, trunk and fenders......believe it or not that actually is alot of weight

Build an aluminum chassis... and mold plastic panels like ShATURNS

"Youth in Asia"...I don't see anything wrong with that.
a/c... back seat... sound deadening... everything in the trunk.. racing seats... go on a diet...
I agree with what most of you say, except myles. Even if it is 2 lbs, the more you take out, it all adds up. When I go to the local track, I usually strip down to just a driver seat. I take the sub box out, spare, jack, rear speaker panel, center console, door panels, speakers. Like i said, even if your only taking out a bunch of little stuff, you could have 20 peices that weigh 2 lbs each.... thats 40 lbs! I have also noticed that after taking all that out, my car does have a noticeable difference in speed.
i cut up the metal tubing under the dash cuz it served no purpose in the spot i took out, a/c is out, back seat, spare tire and jack, cf hood, air bags and metal support for passenger air bag is removed, few other things
most of the weight is in the doors acutally, trust me i just pulled mine, 105 lbs each without the interior panels. get cf doors

sorry for the double post but the bat on my laptop died on me, anyways, inorder to shave the most weight you need to get light weight wheels (axis reverb 17lbs ea.) carbon fiber doors, mirrors, hood, seat, bodykit, fenders and trunk. ditch you a/c unit (including the compressor off the engine, the small radiator and other components) ditch all seats but the drivers, empty the trunk completely including the carpet and molding, completely gut the interior and get rid of the entire a/c / heating especially the blower motor. racing steering wheel well thats about all i can think about. that should shave around 600 lbs or more and like sunb1rd said go an a diet b/c the avg man weighs 180lbs. if you really wanna save weight then the car isnt the only thing that has to go on a diet

ok for the smart asses i weigh a 145 pounds and im 6 foot tall soooo i gaurantee you's need to go on the diet.... just got my wrestling alpha in and i have 9% fat so stfu and i didnt ask for smart ass comments either You guys think its ricey to remove all that little stuff but it adds up ty John, gman, and redz for a good post.
wasnt saying you are fat, b/c i didnt know but the setup i listed is a track only setu b/c the cf doors. they dont have a support beam through the middle like the stock one and they would crumple like tissue paper in a side impact. so f you do all that then you pretty muh need at least a 8 point roll cage with a double side bar. course you need a cage inorder to get the 4, 5 or 6 pt harness anyways so...... well i hope i helped have fun. be safe

sry bout that post Had a baaaad day today family member died and also another bad post in the post on boost or no2 sorry about that ty john for an educated post
well since you asked on how to loose weight without gutting the interior I will try to help. It was said to remove carpet and remove the stuff underneath (30+ pounds under the carpet). For the track remove spare tire, jack. Also behind the interior panels there is plastic and other material that can be lost. If you do not wish to have a/c then that came be lost, and the ac stuff under the dash. Also if you wanted to go as far there is metal that could be cut out, and then put the interior panels back in.

HEAD LINER- where it counts
There is not 30 lbs of anything under the carpet, there is some sound deadener which is probably about 1 lb. and there is some black tar stuff under the front carpet which can't weight more than 5-10 lbs, seeing as I have removed it from a Grand Am GT and it had it in the trunk, under the back seat, under the rear carpet and under the front carpet and it weighed about 15 lbs. Unless you are including the carpet itself which weighs just over 20 lbs, on a digital freight scale, or unless you are talking about cutting out the floor, it not gonna happen,... this is on an 03 fire btw
you could cut out the floor and put in alum diamond plate so that when your racing for respect and you hit your nos the floor can drop ot and make cool sparx everywhere

why would i matter make your car fast with your street trim in i really see no point in "GUTTING"your car its stupid i could understand if it was a true race car but odds are it isnt so dont bother wasting your time with losing a tenth a second or whatever!!!

the cool thing about weight reduction is that it effects all of your performance postively. braking, handling, acceleration, gas mileage, etc. The best part is that a lot of the stuff we're talking about is free. It may not be the choice for you, but I wouldn't mind a couple pounds here and there.
im glad some people will help and not just give a smartass answer i don't know why that if they don't have anything beneficial to stay mind ur business
So far i have removed all the sound deading from under the carpet, foam @!#$ on the passenger compartment side of the firewall, all A/C except the EVAP core in the HVAC case, SDM under pass. seat. Still need to remove the pass. airbag (been unpluged for some time now). Removing ABS module and replacing with prop. valve from 03 up non ABS J car. Evevtualy when it becomes a dedicated race car and I dont have to live with it on the street most of the time I will gut it, will probably swap to manual windows. This is a drag and auto X car so some of the heavy items like the suspension components would have to stay. Of course all the performance stuff adds up to a lot of extra weight.
