Nos/NA or Boost
Monday, November 20, 2006 7:55 AM
Guys Ive got so many ideas running through my head and I just cant figure on my own what to do. Ive got about $2000 budget and Im goin to build a 14 second 2200 one way or another. I got the 3 speed also but I have a 5 speed sitting in my garage. I plan to swap the 5 speed in but im stock on what setup I want to run on my engine. I wanna run 10.5:1 forged pistons and forged rods with clevite bearings, cam regrind, polished, knife edged, and balanced crank(already have it), and mebbe a 100 shot of nos to go with it. Or my other option is run about 15lbs of boost with forged rods and pistons but with the compression down around 9:1 or so. I cant decide which one to choose. I want power and torque off the line, its a daily driver, and Im also on a tight budget as Im 17 and in high school with a part time job =(. Alright thx guys

First thing you need to learn is that you are going to waste money on a car that you won't see the reseale value change other than drop. Second, you could use that money to get some education and keep your feet on the ground. Third, this is a newbie post and you NEED to search by YOURSELF.

and by the way...

NOS is a brand. do some research and then come back when you understand what the 2200 is capable of

And i said im swapping in a 5 SPEED if you didnt read newb @!#$ go out work on your beretta thats worth .50 cents

lol I love these post. 1. You are on here disrespecting ppl who have been on these forums long before you and have plenty of knowledge so I suggest you respect them because you never know when you need an answer and they have it.
2. you obviously are still new to the gm game if you are going to bad mouth a gtz...yet you drive a 2.2 3 spd 2200... research a gtz then see if you still think your cav is better.
3. dont get so offended, its just a forum post.

You know squat about car if you ask a stupid question like you did. You think you cav is worth more than a retta? You sure are dumb.

160hp from a 2200? You are proud of that? Do you know that a stock Gtz has 180hp and 160lbs of torque and will leave you in his smoke if you try to race it? You are one dumb kid.

I thought propane was more of a diesel thing... we need to stick to water/meth, or no?? I have never really read into that.

And OHV notec CAV, with 2k, buy an ecotec and turbo it. Otherwise use NAWZ and put all the stickers on. From what I have read, NOS brand sucks a huge dick.

I meant to replace the gasoline injection system completely with propane it has an octane rating of 104 and liquid propane boils at -44deg put that in your intake. and in diesels it's their equivalent of nitrous in a gasoline car...only cheaper to refill.

the 2200 engine, regardless of 3speed auto or 5 speed manual, is a mid to low 17 second car. 2k isn't going to get you in to the 14 second range. according to this thread, the fastest 3RD GEN 2.2 with power adders is running 13.2 in the 1/4 mile. you look at his mod list and see if you can accomplish that with 2 grand.

as said, learn and research what you're talking about before you come in to a chatboard full of long time members and make an ass out of yourself. regardless of what you think. there's a good chance most of us know more about your car, and the potential of your car, than you do.

Before comming back and trying to be a smart ass, think about this:

Is 2000$ in your car help you in your life? No.

Is 2000$ a good investment in education to help you in your life? Yes

You're 17 for god sake. Save your money and use it for your education. Once you're out of school and you have a diplomat, then you can think about modding you car. If you spend 2k at 17years old, you'll regret it one day. Trust me, most of us did the mistake. 2000$ on your education will give you more in the end than 2000$ on your car.

2000$ on your car is like throwing 2000$ out the window.

Also, most of the guy posting here know more about engine performance than you do. YOU won't teach me anything about our engines.

Hmm, i thought you got good drag numbers with high power not off the line torque. IMO big turbo for drag racing or nitrous, or if it sees way more street and is rarly raced, why bother with N20?

very true about spending it on education. do you know that you for sure want to keep this car for awhile? what would happen if you get mid project, or end up finding another car you liek better? trying to sell your car will be hard enough without mods but mid project, some mods, or built?...... only certain people who are looking for that specific car and idea/project will buy it and you wont get near what you want for it or what you put into it already.
im not busting on you and syaing its a bad idea or not to do it, it is your car and your life. just a warning. i persoanlyl changed ideas for what car i wanted to play with and what to do to them all many time before i settled on my J body, and im glad i never spent alot into the other vehicles cause now i have it to spend on this one.

I also agree with spending it on education. At least an associates so you can get a 30-40k job in a couple years. Then you can throw 1k a month at the car. 2 grand will get you a year of school and the other can be paid by a loan. If your only going for an associates the loan will be small and easy to repay. now those that use loans to pay for medical school...those people have big loans. I was lucky that I had a job that would reimburse me for any college classes I took not just ones related to my feild as long as I kept a 3.5 GPA.

Don't just settle for a HS diploma...the average graduate with no degree makes only 24k a year...that sucks.

ok look OHV CAV. first off u obviously know nothing about cars if u came in here askin what to do to yours because if u did youd simply crunch the numbers and see where the power is and for two 2 grand will but u maybe a few bolt ons but honestly u couldnt get the labor to put a turbo kit , or your beloved "nos installed". do some research and the next time u want to ask question know your topic

Im not going to school I make 22.50 as a laborer for fireproofing when im 18 then ill gradually move up the line as a sprayer and so forth....... Hey if I spend money on my car its better than spending it on drugs or anything, and btw ive moved on yes u guys know more about jbodys but cars in general u think what u want........ I just bought a new car today and sold the cav for 5k so ive moved on enjoy ur cavs and ill enjoy my new 93 nissan 300zx dunno how fast it is but ima take her to the track probably saturday . Sorry to the rest of you specially the cat with the beretta just pissed cuz i do know things bout cars and now apparently I dont. I machine the closest out of my AUTO II class at skills center and i have scholarships from Ford AAA competitions sooo we. I also have a state certification in electrical, brakes suspension, and engine performance. And anyone can install nitrous u stupid @!#$ but obviously you cant because you think that its hard. And as for the turbo Ive already turboed a nissan 240sx which is owned by a friend of mine and is pushing 341hp @ 6200 and 301 lbs/tq @ 5800. Hey and I installed that when i was 16 with my buddy who knows nothing about cars cept for what ive taught him and he took an engine performance test also and passed it with ease. So dont tell i dont know anything about @!#$ cars you dont know me bitch
