It's been on my mind and I wanted to make my 99 Z24 a sleeper with turbo(i know, the blow-off valve will give it away) and nitrous. I don't wanna try to make the fastest car around, just faster than stock and able to run with the civics in town. I wanna keep it clean ans the question remains so...
How many members have a sleeper and what's the horsepower on it?
Pics of the car would be great!!!
Thanks guys

SpeedracerZ and his brother have the Team Green darg car.... total sleeper
as far as I knwo best run to date was a 13.2

on the track right? ...
i definately like a good clean average looking car that can run quick times. good luck on the build!
On the other hand....you have other fingers.

I just bought a 20 inch widescreen ultrasharp flat pannel..I'm going to have to subscribe to the high quality porn places now......damn

i hope to god the civics in your town are highly modified. if you can't keep up with a civic...even the civic's with basic bolt ons, you're car needs a tune up.
GO PATS!!!
or an engine because fred and barney won't cut it

Explain yourself please ...
A stock GSR ( 180HP ) in a Eg/ Ek hatch / coupe ... would be faster because of more power and WAY lighter weight ...
Or if its a Type R engine with 197 HP ... he wouldnt have a chance.
And im not putting down cavaliers/sunfires ... just being realistic here.
Even a highly modded SOHC would pull away from him because of the difference in weight ...
JerseyKid. I'd agree with you on your points. I think what "The Redneck" is getting at is that
most Honda Civics are not GSRs, Type Rs or "highly modded" SOHCs, and that "fpz24" wasn't clear in his post. I don't think he was suggesting that any of the cars you mentioned (Integras and 'highly modded' civics) were slow.

eh, blow off valves are easy to quiet down
hes right, a gsr stock in a eg hatch would put bus lengths on 3/4 of this site including myself cause of the weight of the hatch, buddy has one with intake, header and catback running 13.0 all day long.
and thats also a motor swap.... thats like saying if you put a 3800 Supercharged in a cavi it will be fast.... no @!#$
i know its not a jbody, but does the car in my sig count? 221 whp 259 wtq
Arrival Blue 04 LS Sport

The civics in town go to the track all the time and yes, i'd race on the track and not on the street.
Some of the civics are highly modded and some are not. I wasn't clear cuz my point was to see how many guys have a sleeper and the vw counts.

basic turbo kit with a t3 super 60 will do the job....... paint the front mount intercooler black, use a 1st gen dsm blow off valve, and you should be good to go. shouldnt have a problem with that setup and proper tuning to pull off mid 13s
300hp&tq coming soon

THANKS AND WILL DO!!!
Gotta build the motor first and all that fun research.
Any other sleepers around here?

1G DSM blow off valves are pretty loud. Use a Tial 50mm blow off valve, it makes almost no sound at all.

see to me a better sleeper is an all motor engine, mostly because its quiet. you dont hear a supercharger or turbo spooling up. unfortunatly with a j-body the only all motor sleep to go with is either the 2.6L stroker which has only been accomplished less than a dozen times (not sure on actuall number) and doing a motor swap to something like a 3400 or 3100 V6.
now ive seen some civics with the gsr and h22s and b16as and all that, they are ok. personally i think the h22 is a hunk of junk. its a good engine for going in a straight line, but put that thing in anything else but a prelude, and the positioning of the motor and the weight distribution in something like a civic will cause the front nose to bury into the ground and that will lead to crappy cornering.
im a fan of having things original, and its even better if the numbers match. maybe its cause i grew up watching the dukes of hazard or something, but i like a numbers car. my cousin used to have a DOHC ZC in his 93 Civic buble back. it went pretty good, lots of power, but it didnt match. my friend had a 95 civic DX with the stock D15 in it. you run with that car, and you wouldnt believe its only a 1.5L without vtec.
anyways, back to the task at hand.
you have 2 options, engine swap, forced induction, or NA build up.

Injection is nice but id rather be BLOWN!
turbo's can be very quiet , and the bov can be routed into the intake pipe which helps keep them quiet
there was a early 90's toyota p/u at the track here last sat night , other than the bov , you had no idea how fast it was tell it finished the 1/4 , it was wipser quiet , and ran in the 9.90's @ 145

How is a n/a V6 going to be quieter than a turbo 4 cylinder? The turbo is the best muffler in the world.

I'll be getting my car boosted next year, using a Bosch bypass valve, shouldn't be that loud at all. Only reason you hear a lot of turbo cars is because people use loud BOV's the once Bosch makes can be had for less than $30.00 and are good for anything up to 10psi roughly.

I didnt mean any harm guys ... just trying to let facts be facts ... but im all for painting the intercooler black. While driving NO ONE notices it ...
You can barely see it

thats what i was getting at. i know turbos can be very quiet. and yes i understand a BOV can be routed and purchased in a spec to be quiet. but heres the thing... a turbo spools up to produce power. now unfortunatly there are 2 by products of this power.
the first is noise. if i can hear a turbo on a TDI engine spool up over the noise of the deisel engine, thats not very quiet. same thing with trucks that are tubo diesel and buses and all that crap. you can still hear the turbo spooling.
the second is heat, which is reduced by the intercooler. tell me how the hell you make a sleeper that has a big ass intercooler in the front grill? i know if you put it behind a stock bumper, its harder to notice. ya you can paint it black too, but its still there.
to me a sleeper is a completely stock exterior, well built car. you add a boost gauge and you have lost that element of surprize. my body had an 87 VW jetta (same guy with the 95 DX) with a corado VR6 in it. the car was a POS, but it was fast and could feed it to just about anything we encountered.
if you want to do a nice turbo set up but keep it hidden, check these guys out.
Squires Turbo Systems
thats one of the best setups i have ever seen. expensive, but makes for an awsome sleeper.
