I'm a newb to this forum but not to most anything automotive. Especially repairing or modifing, I'm more into muscle cars but work on most anything. Ive searched the forums for the answer but didn't find one. The question being. I've rebuilt the quad 4 in my 95 cavalier Z24 and am second guessing the ballance shaft timing procedure. I can retime the shafts alot easier now on the stand before I install the engine, if need be. The FSM states the procedure as, Place number 1 piston at TDC, then rotate 90 degrees, install ballance shaft locking tool and install the sprocket an chain to the shaft. Now my second guessing part, which way do I turn the crank an additional 90 degrees? I turned clockwise from the ballancer pulley and now realise that this engine runs counterclockwise. So now do I have the ballance shafts 180 degrees out or not? Any quad 4 gurus out there know what I'm talking about. I do know that the ballance shaft system was added to this motor in 95 and the carried over to the Twin Cam in 96. I shure would appriceate any help or direction as to where I can find the answer Thanks in advance Mark
Can you remove the shafts? I know on my Talon when I rebuilt the engine I removed both mine and it gave me a little more power and it is supposed to be more reliable too.
