yes... another 2.3L Manifold post....

...they just won't go away..

...Port matching...

..before I go and further screw the manifold all to hell, I was wondering which was the best way to port match the
manifold.

#1: Go and buy a gascut for the plastic intake, and after determining where it sits in relation to the mounting studs (my guess is dead centre)
and use that as a template for some slight modifications.

#2: Take the head and the manifold to a machine shop (down time) and get someone who lives, eats and breaths portmatching. pay through
nose and get-er-done a la profescianato

#3: template the head (posterboard + razorblade) and transfer to the manifold?

* * *

#890: Eat some cheeze nubs, kick back and wish it were someone elses problem...

#891: Go and get a beer....play some NFS Carbon...

...Seriously, I have seen all the adapter plates, and none of the (apologies to the engineers) designs seem to deliver very efficent flow.
I have seen the pictures of cut aways, and home-port jobbies

..yes, opinions are hollow and cheap.. a manifold is also hollow....

I want to try and get this done right, and once.. its the only 2.3L HO mani I have found and its taken me scouring junkyards for nearly a year...

any advice (even un-advice) flaming advice, hell a bat to the head.. I am interested in hearing about your stories concerning this
hunk of aluminum..

Idea #1 won't work. If you are hell bent on port matching, 2 or 3 are your best bets.

But quite honestly, you will never port match the manifold to match the head as closely as Chris's phenolic flange does. You would have to port both the head and manifold, or else you will end up with overlap and inevitable turbulance. But to each his own. Best of luck.

Brian..

good to know #1 is a no-way.

the list price on that jobby, is close to 50 bucks (canadian colored monies)

2 or 3 eh..

Phenholic flange looks like the most economical way to go.

..getting a little side-traked, but, I didn't know that the pontiac solstice has a 2.4litre twin cam in it..
did you? I wonder if Pontiac did any modifications to the engine that are noteworthy..

hmm..foofy..

still listening...

Yes as a matter of fact I did. And the modifications are as follows:

-Different block
-Different crank
-Different rods
-Different pistons and rings
-Different spark plugs
-Different head
-Different cams
-Different timing gears
-Different oil pan
-Different I/E manifolds
-Different pulleys
-Different flywheel/ flexplate
-Different oil pump
-Different water pump
-Different PCM
-Different transmission bell housing
-Different motor and trans mounts
oh yeah...add vvt to boot.

swap all of that and you should have a good start
