Under Drive Crank Pulley.

Well, I hate to bring up posts like these because most of the time somebody has all ready posted something on it. But I could not find anything on it with a search. Some times I like to go on www.ebay.com to look for quality replacement parts. I was going through the list when I noticed a knock off UR Crank Pulley. BOMZ is now making underdrive pulleys for the 2.4? Now I hate hearing about cheap knock off low quality products being sold real cheap that newbs bring up on the forums. But looking over it a bit, it seems to be very similar to the UR pulley, and about the same weight. Anybody by any chance have the balls to try this out? Thanks ahead of time for the info.

And on my further adventuring through the mystical land of Ebay I also found this that kind of caught my attention a bit. But like we all say you get what you pay for. Take a look at it Yet another light weight underdrive pulley.

I think it's great how they say it speeds up the crankshaft and because of this gives you a 10hp gain
I wonder what the gains will be if I install two?

I bought a cheap one on ebay before and it works just fine........just make sure when you get it theres no surface cracks or scrapes, if there are just clean them up and get a good surface finish on it, keeping the finish good(pretty smooth) will eliminate the ability to have cracks propagate which will end in a failure of the part. Don't get me wrong I'm not talking about a mirror finish...I dont think the tolerances here require that, just make sure the way you get it is in good surface finish and dont be banging on it with a hammer installing it putting nicks and dings in it.

I have one that looks exactly like the Bomz, I think I paid less though. I have had mine for 2+ years (granted my car has been out of commission for 12 months though). Even after countless times of removing the pulley, I am on the same belt I had from the start.

Yeah, I totaly understand what underdrive crank pulleys do. I'm just wondering if the design and structure of the pulley could keep up to the demand of the belts and engine load. I'm probably not going to get them because one I like my stereo system. Two I'm not going s/c so really no need to UD, and three I'm probably going to get a set of those stock size light weight pulley's that are going around the site for my 2.4. People really seem to like them and the prices are pretty nice for custom work that have actual given proof of working with video and a dyno. I just want peoples opinions on them.

You use a larger than stock crank pulley if you want to overdrive the supercharger, or you use a smaller supercharger pulley.

I definitely agree with you about going stock size. I'll probably pick one up from Mike (-MD- LD9) sometime in the future.

I have bought one before, to see what the compatition was. In my opinion it is at a lower grade aluminum than I would like or even use on my car, but I am probably bias.
I think Mastin said it best
Mastin wrote:Yeah,
MDs is the only one that installed like an OEM pulley.

Meaning,
The Unorthodox and RSM pulleys din't require pulley pullers to get on and off.
You could slide them on and off lke water.

Now, that's not a bad thing per se.
But I didn't even notice it until I got MD's

His, like the factory pulley, you have to use (I had to), the pulley bolt to get it on.
And a pulley puller to get it off.
Fitment was nice and tight like OEM.

Weight wise its like a 2-3 oz. diff. Personally weighed on the same USPS scale
RSM underdrive 11oz (THE lightest but my car is an auto and that was just too light for my liking )
Unorthordox underdrive 14 oz
RSM factory size 21oz
MD LD9 custom 23 oz
Factory was 63.6 oz

Only ones I've not tried are the Apex factory sized. Can't remember the weight.
And the ebay/RK geneic underdrive pulley. But I hear that's over a pound and a half.

So if you want factory sized, go for MD's
Hopefully ha has a couple left.

-MD- LD9 I notice that you are remaking the design of the pulleys for well, I guess all of the diffirent types of engines coming out of our J's. What are the improvements of your new LD9 design? And what are the prices for them? Can we still get both the crank and the alt pulley? I would read through your topic you have up but there is ALOT of pages so if you could PM prices I would like to try and get a set before Xmas posssibly.

I have one of the ebay pulleys. Love it works great and weights 14oz. I had a 2.3 pulley before that. The ebay puley is about the same size as the 2.3 but weights much less. Fits nice and tight as well. Quality is as good as any other one out there.

Mine requires a puller to remove the pulley, and a wood block + mallet to get it back on.
