I'm currently in the process of pickin up an almost (only 500km) 2003, 2.2 ecotec out of car that was in an accident and written off. I have seen pictures and there is no damage to that engine (ie cracks, dents ect...) that i can see. With the purchase of the engine, i am also getting fuel inj, water pump, intake, balancer, ign system, and fuel rail.
Im pretty new to the whole aftermarket tuning scene and need some help, so my question(s) is, what other parts am i missing to complete this swap? also, would it be easier to put the engine together outside of the car and then drop it into the bay, or put the bulk of the engine in the bay and then start to put it all together?
sorry for the question(s) being so general and no specific, but like i said, im new to the scence but am anxious to learn.
have a good holiday and dont worry, ill have a ton more of questions for ya
haha, oops, sorry about that, i guess that would be helpful information eh, newbie mistake! Its a manual 1997 sunfire. i want take the stock 2.2L out and replace it with the 2.2L Ecotec i mentioned before.
youre going to need to run new wiring for the whole car
basically you need everything from the firewall front

Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!
haha, ya i figured i would have to do that but i wanted to hear someone else say it! now do you guys recommend buying it all new so everything on the engine is on the same level, or should i shop around and find some used part?
Also, would there be anything in or on the engine that would be salvageable that could be used on the new engine?
id buy new. but thats just me.
to answer your 2nd question, the lower engine mount is the onlything i can think of that can be used with the 2.2 ecotec

so find a car at the junkyard thats around the same year as the engine and just grab parts from that?
This maybe a dumb question but i just thought of it the other day after speakin with the guy iam going to buy the engine off of. The car i am putting the engine in has a 5 speed manual transmission in it, and i was just curious to know that if i the engine i am buying came from an automatic car, will this work? or am i lookin at a whole mess of problems and headaches?
just make sure you get the 5 speed transmission and the ecu for the 5 speed, otherwise it doesnt matter if the motor came from a car with an auto tranny.
I want to share something with you - the three sentences that will get you through life. Number one, 'cover for me', Number two, 'oh, good idea, boss', Number three, 'it was like that when I got here.'
