What needed to get into the low 13's?
Sunday, December 24, 2006 7:40 PM
I have a friend who has a 2001 Z24 2.4liter with auto trans. I am putting a 75 shot of nitrous on it along with a cold air intake. What other mods along with these would get it to our goals of low 13's. We aren't going to be running a turbo or supercharger right now but possibly later. Please list some combos that would work with what we have. I am looking for mostly bolt ons right now. Anything that doesn't include going into the bottom end.

A bunch of this to start with:

Any sort of FI or power adder on the LD9, you are more than likely going to have to hit into the bottom end.

i can get you to 14s for free:

but its just gonna take plenty of money and perf parts...are you prepared to spend a min of 1000 dollars?

My car may run 18s, but I can do your taxes in 10 seconds flat.
JBO lube - they would never have enough in stock and we'd never see RodimusPrime again

Well I know it can be done on the stock bottom end. My brother has a 96 with a 2.4 and a 5 speed. I put a nos wet 100 shot kit on it along with an aluminum flywheel, aftermarket clutch, header, cat-back exhaust, underdrive crank pulley, and a cold air intake. It ran 13.50's. But I am now trying to reapeat this only with an automatic car. I know I won't get as much power to the wheels with it. I'm hoping with the same mods with the exception of the flywheel and the clutch it will go 13.90's. Any other suggestions from anyone?

I did a search for nitro. There isn't a member on here with that username.

Back in the day i ran a 75 shot, header, full exhaust, CAI, 62mm TB, motor mounts, UR underdrive pulley and stiff suspension on my 2.4 automatic. The best it resulted in was mid 14's.

^^ Good tires... traction FTW.

You can add all the power that you want, but if your tires wont take it, then it's just going to end up as smoke in the air.

I have a 3400 and cheap tires. It's not a real good combination, unless i'm rolling faster than 2nd gear.

Another thing that will help greatly along with the sticky tires would be to change out the torque converter to a performance one with a much higher stall. My Buddy Dale is currently and consistanly running low 13's (13.09 being his best e.t.) with a stock Eco with the auto, his list of mods include, a zex 75 shot dry nitrous system, 3000rpm Yenk stall converter, MT et wrinkle walls running at 10 psi, on 14' aluminum rims, RKS WAI, magnaflow cat back, and eibach springs. The stall and slicks made all the difference, without em we could't break 13's

Later,
Skinny J

These cars produce nowhere near the horsepower that would warrant an aftermarket hi-flow exhaust system. ( been there, done that. accidentally moved my torque band up too high.. keep the stock stuff on there, and just play with the cat or muffler)

Do the things that help every car. cam, high flow cat, port the head, shift kit the trans, better air filter, reflash of the prom, tighten up the suspension, do some heat management mods, and lighten the car the best you know how. Remember that just throwin on a power adder, without readying the rest of the car for it, is a sure fire recipe for disaster. do the supporting mods first, and the hp adder last. Sometimes, people find that after theyve done the supporting mods, the power adder they had in mind, was necessary anymore....

Re-flash the prom on a 2000 2.4 ...and how in the world would a "aftermarket hi-flow exhaust system" not help. It does help, and will help. Heat management mods....For what....There is no need.....unless he has a shift kit

I agree with what your TRYING to say, and the point you were trying to make.

cough, higher stall torque converter, cough!

Too many people don't realize how much this can do for an auto tranny, no matter want mods you have!
