Moving IAT sensor to the port on HO manifold
Wednesday, December 27, 2006 12:51 PM
Anyone done this? My buddy just put his manifold on and we made an intake that went down so hooking the IAT is out of reach so i figured if we are going to extend it why not plug it into the screw in sensor on the HO manifold.

Can this be done?

Will it have any benefit over just putting the sensor back into the intake?

you can use the 2.3 sensor , and mod the plug so that it fits , or wire in the 2.3 plug

other option is to use the screw in iat sensor from the camaro , that i posted about along time ago , as a screw in iat for use with turbos

which is in the boost fourm , and i think the part # is 1 of the stickeys at the top

i was gonna go cut the plug and wire off an older OHC motor with the LO manifold on since i believe it also has a screw in sensor....then just cut the wires on his IAT now and splice them in, i would assume it would plug right in, otherwise i'll just take the sensor out of the LO mani too.

I think you would have some serious heatsoak issues with the sensor in the manifold versus in an intake tube.
The manifold gets a LOT hotter than the intake tube, it would cause a/f issues in the long run, which would probably defeat the purpose.

there isnt going to be any heatsoak....he is using the Chris Fontana flange....and why would an oem sensor location cause heat soak?

because he thinks that the little hotter the manifold is is going to cause you to run lean, which is BS..

just do exactly what you were talking about it'll work perfect

There is no heat soak if you get the camaro sensor as it comes insulated from the fitting that screws into the manifold.

Actually it's not all that dificult. I did this on my HO manifold. Take out the HO screw in IAT and JB weld the stock 2.4 IAT into the hole and make sure it's sealed, then paint over it. Looks like it was made to be there.

Did you have to extend the iat or would the stock length reach?

lol, and then when the sensor goes bad?

The stock 2.3 sensor can be used, and all you have to do is take a razor to the side of the 2.4 sensor plug, and trim off what you need to make it fit (easy).

Or use the F-body sensor.

You dont need to cut/splice the wires to make them longer either, just peal back the wire loom, and fish the wires out. GM says to do this with the GM S/C install.

yeah, i have a screw in sensor on my ho manifold. No idea what sensor I used though, I just pulled something off the shelf at the store i worked at and made sure it read the same temp. Works great
