2200 AT to eco MT swap!
Wednesday, December 27, 2006 4:18 AM
Ok i got a 2002 cavalier with the 2200 and the auto tranny. I Just bought a 2004 ecotec and 5 speed getrag tranny with 6k for 900 bucks. I done alot of research on swapping over the eco and it doesnt seem bad at all. But im kinda having trouble understanding the whole tranny swap thing. People say i will have to weld wich is no biggie. What all would i need besides the tranny? And does the shifter out of a 95-99 work?

No, the 99- shifter will not work. You need the transmission, and everything thats connected to it, from the shifter to the pedals, linkages, mounts, etc.

The eco in the NA Ion is the same as the eco in the cavy/sunfire

no, it's not.

the computer, harness, power steering, oil pan, intake cam, oil dipstick tube, lower mount, trans and trans mounts, upper mount bracket, fuel rail and fuel lines, and cooling lines are different.
trust me. I'm going through the swap right now.

You can buy the tranny mounts you need for this swap. You can get the rear rom GM for about $25-$30, and the front one from Turbo tech Racing for about $45.

the Ion uses a different mount setup. the bracket that the dogbone bolts to on the j-body eco is not there on a Ion eco. the oil pan on the Ion doesn't have the bolt holes for the j-body mount bracket.

but yes... I'm using all TTR mounts.

Sorry I was not referring to ION Ecotec's. I have not dealt with them, but in regards to putting a Ecotec into a J and going from auto to manual, I have done it a few times.

@ Lime - Sorry, the eco trans has different bellhousing bolt pattern compared to the '02 and under 2200/Quad-4 trans. I found out the hard way and had to purchase one for my '01 sunfire, as my doner car was auto.
